Viaje a través del tiempo – 50 años de emigrantes turcos en Alemania Sevim Can Eyüboglu y Hüseyin Aydin llegan a Alemania a finales de los años 60. Los dos trabajan en la empresa Ford, en Colonia, y se hacen amigos. Uno regresa a Turquía a principios de los 80, el otro permanece en Alemania, funda una familia y se labra un futuro. Más de 40 años después de su primera estancia en Alemania, Sevim Can Eyüboglu realiza el mismo viaje que entonces, en tren desde Estambul a Alemania, para visitar a su viejo amigo. Dos hombres y dos trayectorias diferentes, típicas de los emigrantes turcos en Alemania.

Der 71-Jährige gehört mit seiner Frau Christel zur ständig größer werdenden Gruppe von Senioren, die regelmäßig der kalten Jahreszeit in ihrer Heimat entflieht. Etwa deutsche 50.000 Rentner verbringen inzwischen den Winter im warmen Süden. Besonders günstig sind solche Langzeitferien in der Türkei. Oft ist ein Mittelklassehotel mit Vollpension nicht viel teurer als die Selbstversorgung zu Hause.

Turkey, a Pensioners’ Paradise – Winters under Palm Trees Holidaymaker Jürgen Hartwig is up early. The battle for the best sun-loungers gets the pensioner out of bed at the crack of dawn. The 71-year-old and his wife Christel are among a steadily growing array of retirees who regularly flee their home country during the cold season. Around 50,000 German pensioners now spend their winters in the warm south. Such long holidays are particularly inexpensive in Turkey. Often a moderately-priced hotel with full board isn’t much more expensive than just buying food in Germany.

Der Katastrophe entkommen – Nichts ist mehr so, wie es war Am 28. August 1988 stießen bei einer Flugschau in Ramstein italienische Flugzeuge zusammen. 70 Menschen starben. Horst Nietsch und seine Frau überlebten schwer verletzt. Die Katastrophe von Ramstein war für den Trauma-Spezialisten Hartmut Jatzko und seine Frau Sybille, Gesprächstherapeutin, Anlass, eine Katastrophennachsorge zu gründen. Mittlerweile ist das Zentrum Anlaufstelle für Menschen geworden, deren Leben sich durch eine Katastrophe dramatisch verändert hat. Hierher kommen auch die Betroffenen des Tsunami, des 11. September 2001, des Birgenair-Absturzes und viele andere.

Victims of Disaster – When Everything Changes On 28 August 1988, Italian jets collided during the Ramstein air show in Germany. 70 people were killed.Horst Nietsch and his wife survived badly injured. The Ramstein disaster was the reason why Hartmut Jatzko, a trauma expert, and his wife Sybille,a trained therapist, founded a special center to care for traumatised disaster victims.They include people caught in other life-changing events such as the horrific 2004 Asian tsunami, the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York and the 1996 Birgenair crash in the Dominican Republic.

Schlaflos in Deutschland – Wenn Menschen nicht zur Ruhe kommen Seit fast 25 Jahren kann Irmi Höpfl nicht mehr richtig schlafen. Beruhigungsmittel, Schlafmittel und Antidepressiva halfen nicht. Trotz "Drogenkarriere" – wie Irmi Höpfl es nennt – wurde sie mit 40 in Rente geschickt. Jeder zweite Berufstätige – so Krankenkassen – leidet an Schlafstörungen. Die Ursachen können ganz unterschiedlich sein. Steven Remmel, Chemiestudent hofft im Schlaflabor, den Gründen auf die Spur zu kommen. Facing Down Prejudice The teacher Lena Orhan of Berlin is often taken for a cleaning lady; the pediatrician Adnan Akbaba of Hamburg is confused with a caretaker; the police officer Irfan Pehlivanoglu is suspected of being a criminal in disguise. They all come from immigrant families; they grew up in Germany, and they’ve made the grade, fighting prejudices all the way. They set


important examples and mediate between cultures. A camera team followed these trailblazers in school, at home and on patrol.

Nördlich von Borkum, mitten in der Nordsee, werden 80 dieser gigantischen Windkraftanlagen der jüngsten Generation errichtet. Windparks wie diese sollen die dringend gewünschte Energiewende ermöglichen. Doch der Weg von der Atomkraft hin zur alternativen Energieversorgung ist ein steiniger. Immer wieder müssen die Techniker und Ingenieure ihre Arbeiten einstellen, zu hoch sind die Wellen, zu heftig wird der Wind.

Construction Site in the Sea – A Giant North Sea Wi nd Farm The foundation of an offshore wind turbine reaches 40 meters down into the seabed, and its rotors are mounted at a height of 80 meters. Gargantuan state-of-the-art wind-powered electrical generators are to be installed north of the island of Borkum in the North Sea to form one of the latest generation of wind farms. Many hopes are riding on wind farms like these to help ease the difficult transition to renewable energy sources. But the road from nuclear power to green energy is a long and rocky one. The technicians and engineers keep having to stop work to wait out choppy seas and gale-force winds.

Seven Days – Swapping Lives, Part 3 The Schwerdtner family from the Spreewald south of Berlin and the Turkish Altiok family from the city’s Neukölln district are braving an extraordinary experiment. They will swap lives for one week and take on the jobs, hobbies and rituals of the other family. The last day of the experiment coincides with Bayram, the last day of Ramadan and the most important Muslim festival. At the end both families meet for this family celebration in the Spreewald and talk about their experiences.

Wie die Mauer fiel – Von der Teilung bis zur Einhei t Es ist eines der bedeutendsten Ereignisse des letzten Jahrhunderts und ein historisches Datum für die Deutschen: In der Nacht vom 9. auf den 10. November 1989 fällt durch den friedlichen und mutigen Druck der Menschen überraschend die Berliner Mauer. Überschäumende Freude vereint Tausende an den Grenzübergängen. Mehr als 28 Jahre lang hatte das berüchtigte Bauwerk Familien, Freunde und Liebende getrennt. Die bewegende Geschichte der deutschen Teilung und wie sie überwunden wurde.


The Fall of the Berlin Wall – From Divided Germany to Reunification It was one of the most significant single events of the previous century and a red-letter date for Germany. On the evening 9 November 1989, the Berlin Wall fell, brought down by persistent, courageous and peaceful pressure from the East German people. No one had expected it would come so fast. Thousands of people came flooding through the checkpoints, wild with joy. For over 28 years, one of the world's most notorious barriers had separated families, friends and loved ones in two parts of the same city. This is the gripping story of Germany's division and how it was overcome.

Der verrückte Bauernhof – Klaus und seine 1000 Tier e Auf dem 60 Hektar Grundstück von Klaus N. tummeln sich über 1.000 Tiere. Seine Mission: Er will seinen Tieren ein Paradies bieten, doch die Arbeit ist ihm längst über den Kopf gewachsen. In einem riesigen Freigehege leben Schafe, Ziegen, Hunde, Schweine, ein Pferd und allerlei Federvieh. Mittendrin die verfallenen Reste eines ehemaligen Bauernhofs. Die Ruinen werden nur noch von Taubenschwärmen bewohnt. Davor residiert der Herr über Grund und Boden in einem verrotteten Wohnwagen. Der "König" der Tiere, ihr Retter, ein Mann mit Humor und Listigkeit.


The Crazy Farm – Klaus and His 1000 Animals Klaus N. has more than 1000 animals on his 60 hectares. He wants to create a paradise for his animals but now he is out of his depth.The huge outdoor enclosure is home to sheep, goats, dogs, pigs, one horse and all kinds of feathered creatures. In the midst of it all are the decaying remains of an old farmhouse. The ruins are now inhabited by pigeons, while the owner lives in a rundown trailer. The "King of the Beasts”, their saviour, is a man with a sense of humour and not a little cunning.


Una granja de locura – Klaus y sus mil animales En el terreno de 60 hectáreas de Klaus N. retozan mil animales. El granjero sueña con brindar a sus animales un paraíso pero él solo no da abasto con tanto trabajo. En un cercado inmenso viven ovejas, cabras, perros, cerdos, un caballo y toda clase de aves. En medio del terreno, los restos de una antigua granja sirven de refugio a las bandadas de palomas. Klaus N. reside a la entrada, en una caravana oxidada. El "rey” de los animales, su salvador, es un hombre de buen humor y astuto.

Ludwigsburg Eigentlich wollte Herzog Eberhard Ludwig nur ein Jagdschloss bauen, auf dem Lande, aber wie es damals in absolutistischen Kreisen so üblich war, geriet der Bau immer größer und herrlicher und am Ende schwärmten die Gäste des Hofes vom "Schwäbischen Versailles". Um dem Bau noch mehr Gewicht zu verleihen, gab ihm der Herzog seinen Namen:

Evidence Speaks for Itself – Accident Investigators on the Job Andre Schlesselmann and Kai-Oliver Apel are accident investigators. They’re called in whenever someone has been hurt in a motor crash. The question is always the same: whose fault was it? They interview witnesses and gather evidence. Even the smallest marks on the asphalt might help them reconstruct the course of the accident. Every dent and scrape on the vehicles involved tell the investigators what happened and how. Quite often, the statements of the drivers and passengers can be contradictory, especially if they still feel shaken by their brush with fate.

Entran en acción en cuanto hay un choque en la carretera y se producen heridos. La pregunta es siempre la misma: ¿de quién es la culpa? Interrogan a los testigos, buscan pistas. Son capaces de reconstruir el siniestro partiendo del más mínimo arañazo en el asfalto y la más insignificante abolladura les sirve de indicio sobre las causas. Se trata de pistas de gran valor cuando las declaraciones de los testigos se contradicen y los nervios impiden ver con claridad.

Wenn andere Menschen schlafen gehen und es in Hamburg ruhiger wird, rüstet sich Eva auf dem Großmarkt für den großen Ansturm.


Eva’s Fresh Vegetables – Hamburg’s Biggest Market a t Night Eva Wiedemann has been working the night shift in Europe’s largest market hall for more than forty years. She was there as a child when her parents haggled over fruit and veg prices. Today the 60-year-old is one of the most senior stall holders supplying shopkeepers, local market stall holders and restaurant chefs with produce from all around the world every night. When other people go to bed and things quiet down in Hamburg, Eva starts preparing for the big rush at the wholesale market.

Sein eigenes wird vielleicht nur noch ein paar Monate schlagen. Benedikt ist einer von rund 12.000 Menschen in Deutschland, die auf eine Organspende hoffen. Eine verstörende Hoffnung: Es muss jemand sterben, damit er selber leben kann. Der Film begleitet ihn und andere Patienten, die im Transplantationszentrum München-Großhadern auf ein Spenderorgan warten.

Organ Donation – The Quest for a Second Life Benedikt will become a father in a few days’ time. But to make his happy family situation last, he needs something else: a new heart. His own will only beat for a few more months. Benedikt is one of around 12,000 people in Germany hoping to receive a donor organ. It’s an unsettling hope: someone has to die so the recipient can live. This film accompanies Benedikt and other patients who are waiting for a donor organ in a major transplant center in Munich.

El que tiene dejará de latir a lo sumo en un par de meses. Benedikt es una de las 12.000 personas que esperan un órgano donado en Alemania. Una esperanza inquietante, pues alguien tiene que morir para que él pueda seguir viviendo. Acompañamos a Benedikt y a otros pacientes a la espera de un órgano en el centro de trasplantes de Múnich-Großhadern.

Konsum – nein danke! Bei Jochen und Simone ist der Kühlschrank leer – Zeit, für Nachschub zu sorgen. Das tun die beiden grundsätzlich nach Ladenschluss. Wenn es dunkel geworden ist, gehen sie zu den Abfallcontainern hinter Supermärkten. Dort gibt es Lebensmittel in Hülle und Fülle, deren Verfallsdatum überschritten ist – aber das stört die beiden nicht. Immer mehr Konsumverweigerer gibt es, die aus Überzeugung so leben: Sie protestieren gegen eine Wegwerfgesellschaft, in der es normal geworden ist, viel zu viel zu produzieren und dann wieder zu vernichten.


Consumer Society? No Thanks! Jochen and Simone’s fridge is empty. Time to get more food. These two always do that after the shops close. When it’s dark they go to the rubbish bins behind the supermarkets. These contain vast quantities of food that have passed their sell-by date – but that doesn’t bother these two. There are more and more people who are saying no to consumerism, out of conviction. They are protesting against a throw-away society that produces too much at too high a cost, only to discard it.

Tras la hora de cierra se dirigen a los contenedores de basura de los supermercados, a la caza de alimentos que han sobrepasado la fecha de caducidad. Pero eso a ellos no les importa. Cada vez más personas se rebelan contra el consumo y eligen esta forma de vida por convencimiento. Protestan contra una sociedad donde se ha vuelto normal producir en exceso para tirar la mitad a la basura.

Schons wird bei seiner Arbeit begleitet und gezeigt, wie der erfahrene Anwalt schlimmen Nachbarschaftsstreit beilegen will. In der zweiten Folge liegen sich Dietmar Lyß und das Ehepaar Müller in den Haaren. Im beschaulichen Emskirchen kämpfen sie um eine Gartenhütte. Sie steht auf dem Gelände der Müllers, grenzt aber an das neu renovierte Fachwerkhaus von Herrn Lyß. "Die Hütte muss weg", sagt der eine, "die Hütte bleibt stehen", sagt der andere. Die Wut kocht so hoch, dass sogar schon der Abriss per Kettensäge angedroht wurde. Gründe für oder gegen die Hütte gibt es viele, doch was steckt wirklich hinter diesem Gezänk? Ein Fall für Herbert P. Schons. Der Anwalt setzt alles daran, den alteingesessenen Herbert Müller und den zugezogenen Dietmar Lyß an einen Tisch zu bekommen. Er will verhindern, dass es zum Äußersten kommt, denn beide Streithähne sind bereit, den Fall "Gartenhütte" vor Gericht auszufechten. Bringt Schons die beiden zur Vernunft?

It’s not always easy when almost all of the 62 rooms are seeing departures and new arrivals on the same day. But everything has to run smoothly: the peak season is the most lucrative time of year. A report on tough duties against the backdrop of a magnificent mountain landscape.

Así adiestra a su personal el ama de llaves del hotel "Partenkirchner Hof”, en la localidad bávara de Garmisch. Y no siempre resulta fácil, sobre todo los días en que el hotel de 62 habitaciones tiene que acomodar a muchos huéspedes nuevos. Pero no puede haber ningún contratiempo, pues la temporada alta es la principal fuente de ingresos del año. Expedition Heimat – Indien Anand Narayanaswamy Für Anand Narayanaswamy war es die letzte Reise als indischer Staatsbürger in die alte Heimat. Seit kurzem haben er und seine Familie deutsche Pässe. Noch einmal besucht er mit uns die wichtigsten Stationen seiner Kindheit und Jugend von Chennai bis Kolkata, dem früheren Kalkutta. Anand zeigt uns ein Land, das in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten einen schnellen Wandel erlebt – wie er selbst auch. Seine neue Heimat hat der zum Volk der Tamilen gehörende IT-Spezialist in München gefunden. Hier lebt er mit Frau und zwei Kindern in einer Doppelhaushälfte.


Coming Home – India Anand Narayanaswamy This was Anand Narayanaswamy’s last visit to his old home country as an Indian citizen. He and his family now have German passports. He takes us to the scenes of his childhood and teenage years from Chennai to Kolkata, once known to the West as Calcutta. Anand shows us a country that has undergone radical changes in the past few decades – just as he has himself: an ethnic Tamil and IT specialist, he’s found a new home in Munich, where he now lives in a duplex with his wife and two children.

This two-part documentary describes the development of electronic dance music, introduces key musicians and producers, including interviews with music experts and internationally successful stars. The second episode focuses on techno, eurodance and styles of the new millennium.

Year for year, Greenland loses a volume of ice roughly the size of the Alps, while in Bangladesh the intervals between major floods grow shorter and shorter. The floods bring saltwater inland, spoiling once fertile cropland. For some 30 years now, Paleoclimatologist Lonnie Thompson has been analyzing ice cores taken from Peru’s Quelccaya Ice Cap to get a picture of climate data from past millennia. His conclusions are shocking.

Mama Maputo – HIV-positiv und ein gesundes Kind? Célia und Helena. Zwei Frauen in Mosambik. Beide sind schwanger und HIV-positiv. Noch immer ist die höchste Infektionsrate auf dem afrikanischen Kontinent die Mutter-Kind-Übertragung. Dabei lässt sich dieses Risiko erheblich mindern. Mit der richtigen Vorsorge und der regelmäßigen Einnahme von Medikamenten. Célia und Helena haben diese Chance. DW-TV hat beide Frauen über mehrere Monate begleitet. Wie leben sie mit ihrer Krankheit? Wie meistern sie ihren Alltag? Werden sie gesunde Kinder zur Welt bringen? Ein Porträt zweier Kämpferinnen.


Mama Maputo – Life for My Child Célia and Helena are two women in Mozambique. Both are pregnant, and both are HIV positive. The most frequent path of infection among Africans is still from mother to child. However it is possible to lower the risk considerably by taking precautions and proper medications regularly. Célia and Helena intend to do just that. DW-TV watched these two women over several months. How do they live with their condition? How do they get by from day to day? Will their babies be healthy? A portrait of two defiant women and their fighting spirit.

El contagio de madre a hijo sigue siendo la vía de infección más habitual en el continente africano.
