Transcripts of the listening comprehension texts
My name is Sharon Douglas and I live in Luton, a town north of London. From Monday to Friday I get up at seven o’clock every morning. In the bathroom I brush my teeth, wash my face and comb my hair. I have a light breakfast at twenty past seven. I don’t eat much on school days. I usually have a boiled egg with a slice of toast and a cup of tea. I listen to the morning programme on the radio. I leave home at half past eight and ride my bike to school. It isn’t far and I usually get there at ten minutes to nine. At nine o’clock all the pupils and teachers meet in the hall for Assembly. My first lesson starts at quarter past nine.
Track 1 – Station 1: My morning, Task 1 + 2 (My family and I, page )
Mr Dudley likes a quick breakfast during the week. He doesn’t have time for a big breakfast. He drinks a cup of tea and eats two or three biscuits. He listens to the radio. Mr Dudley doesn’t drive to work. He goes to work by train. He buys a newspaper at the station.
Mrs Dudley gets up after her husband. She makes tea for her daughter. She doesn’t drink tea, she likes coffee. Mrs Dudley doesn’t eat anything at breakfast. She drinks her coffee with lots of milk and watches the news on television.
Susan Dudley likes a soft-boiled egg with toast for breakfast. She has two or three cups of tea. She doesn’t put sugar in her tea. Susan doesn’t watch TV with her mother. She takes her dog Benny for a quick walk after break-fast. Then she gets the bus to school. It stops at the end of the street.
Track 2 – Station 3: Weekday breakfasts, Task (My family and I, page )
My name is Mike Foster and I’ve got two kids and a dog. They’re good kids. They know I can’t always do every-thing myself and they help me at home. Kevin always takes the dog for a walk before school and again after school. After school he often vacuums all the rooms, too. Shirley always puts our things into the dishwasher after meals. After school she usually tidies up downstairs and waters the flowers in the living room. And on Sunday mornings she also washes our clothes in the washing machine. I usually cook a big meal when I get home from work, but sometimes I order pizzas. I always do the shopping on Saturday mornings. On Sunday afternoons I sometimes help Kevin and Shirley with their homework.
Track 3 – Station 6: Our jobs, Task 1 + 2 (My family and I, page )
Mr Taylor : Our new house is ready, darling. Do you know what colours you’d like?Mrs Taylor : Yes, I do. I’d like a blue roof for the house.Mr Taylor : Yes, blue is a good colour for a house roof. What about the chimney?Mrs Taylor : I’d like a red chimney.Mr Taylor : A red chimney is fi ne. Now then. What colour do you want for the house walls?Mrs Taylor : I think two colours would be nice. Yellow for the fi rst-fl oor walls and orange for the ground-fl oor walls.Mr Taylor : Two colours for the house walls? I’m not sure. It’s a bit unusual.Mrs Taylor : You’ve got no imagination. It’ll look super.Mr Taylor : Yes, dear. What about the house door?Mrs Taylor : I’d like a green front door and a pink doorstep. Is that OK with you?Mr Taylor : A green door and a pink doorstep. I think I can live with that, dear. Can I pick the colours for the
garage?Mrs Taylor : Yes, of course, dear. What colour do you want for the garage roof?Mr Taylor : Well, it will be black.Mrs Taylor : Oh, that’s a boring colour! Are you sure?Mr Taylor : Yes, dear. I’d really like a black roof for the garage.Mrs Taylor : Very well, if that’s really what you want. And the garage walls? Pink would be nice.Mr Taylor : No, I’d like yellow walls for the garage. The same colour as the fi rst-fl oor house walls. And I’d like a
red metallic garage door.
