MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

NZUSI NEWSLETTER

Dear Urologists

Greetings from Meerut.

After an unusually long winter we are in the very short period of spring when our gardens bloom in myriad colours. So do enjoy this show by nature before we get engulfed by the searing heat.

We have crossed the first quarter of this year, marked by a well conducted USICON at Bhubaneswar, the highlight of which was the election of Dr Anant Kumar as President Elect USI by first ever online voting. The election of North Zone candidates for two consecutive years speaks volumes about the strength of our Zone and we must remain united and focussed for further gains in future. During this period there were visits to Bangladesh and Nepal by our President, Dr M S Agrawal and other members from our zone for the annual conferences of our neighbours. A strong contingent from the North zone also attended the EAU meeting at Barcelona again led by our President, Dr M S Agrawal.

April brings us to time for action. The nation is on the verge of elections to the 17th Lok Sabha. We may have our own favourites but each one of us should not only vote but make sure that their entire family and friends also vote. Voting is just not a right but a duty as well so do not forget to cast your vote the day voting is scheduled in your city.

April also marks the beginning of our zonal academic activities. The first of which is on the first weekend itself at Dehradun where stalwarts of Laparoscopic Surgery from our zone and a few from outside showcase their skills and provide a great learning experiences at the Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, Jolly Grant. The academics are interspersed by a dose of yoga on the banks of Ganga at Rishikesh. Following this is another exclusive event at Ranthambore, an in depth discussion on various aspects of legal issues in our day to day practice at the Urolegacon which also has a tremendous opportunity for tiger viewing at two safari options during the meet.

The third scientific activity shall be during an overseas trip on board a cruise ship in the first week of October. The unusual theme for this is Paraurology.

An innovation took place this year - online council meeting through zoom. The advantage was ability to exchange ideas without the need to travel from the comfort of your own home/office. This shall encourage frequent meetings to bring about desired changes which otherwise were held only when the council met at regular zonal events.

It brings me to the most important event of the year, the 29th NZUSICON at Greater Noida. A sincere request to all members to freely give in their suggestions about the conduct of this meet. Your opinion does matter and we seek member's view on the scientific content and also on the kind of catering and entertainment. Prof Arnulf Stenzl, Director of the Department of Urology, University of Tub̈ingen Medical School; Chairman of the Scientific Congress Office of the European Association of Urology has consented to here for this meeting. His major research interests are bladder and prostate cancer and reconstructive urology. Both the Council as well as the Hosts at Greater Noida seek your views.

There has been an unprecedented proliferation of events which makes some of us to travel virtually every week. Despite this an earnest request to members to attend the official meetings of North Zone since a lot of effort goes in the successful conduct of these meets by the hosts and we need not only take advantage of these opportunities to enhance our knowledge and skills but also pay tribute to the efforts of the organizing team by attending them.

Look forward to seeing most of you in our forthcoming events.

Jai Hind.

With Warm Regards

Dr Anil ElhencePresident, NZUSI
