Feel green, active and healthy among thermal and mineral waters. Visit the vibrant cities, offering rich cultural heritage and unspoiled nature only a step away from the city centre. Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, was the European Green Capital 2016. The national program, Slovenia Green, helps us evaluating and improving the sustainability of our destinations and providers. This internationally comparable tool is an engine of sustainable efforts of all the stakeholders in the country.

Last year a record number of almost 11 million overnight stays exceeded no less than five times the number of the population (2 million). By creating tourism products, which inspire travelers’ responsible engagement, we are building a community of green ambassadors.

Dear ITB participants,

it is great honor for the World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF) to be the Co-Host for ITB Berlin Convention for the second consecutive year.

In the present era, tourism has been working as a crucial force to connect the world and bridge different civilizations, with its widespread effects on economy, society, culture, politics, eco-system and other areas. As the first city-based international tourism organization in the world, WTCF has published ”World Tourism Economy Trends (2017)” report. The report shows that global tourism has become a vital drive for the global economy as it sustained a high growth rate while the global economy has been recovering slowly and the international trade has slowed down.

By the end of 2016, the Chinese outbound tourist count has passed 122 million, with year on increase of 4.3 %. Total inbound and outbound tourists in China have reached 260 million. WTCF will help you to understand the Chinese tourism market in more depth and will feature a discussion with our speakers with excellent knowledge of the Chinese outbound tourism business.

Tourism is one of the most powerful and interesting economic sectors in the world. The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) acknowledges the importance of the tourism sector for development cooperation.

The tourism industry, with its extensive value chain, its global activities and its undeniable economic force, is especially well-placed to play a major role and to be a strong partner in realizing development. With our joint expertise we can create value for local communities, protect and conserve cultural and natural resources and improve livelihoods in our partner countries.

At the ITB Tourism for Sustainable Development Day, sponsored by the BMZ, experts will report on and debate the opportunities, risks and limitations of tourism in the context of development cooperation, looking at the topic from different perspectives. The focal points of the discussions will be cruise ship tourism, tourism’s role in fighting poach-ing and joint cooperation activities by the BMZ and the tourism industry.
