1 General

This CDS Operating Manual describes the procedures for configuring, initializing, and starting the CDSsoftware, and how to operate the CDS. The CDS software includes detailed operating instructions in the form ofan ONLINE help system. The operating manual briefly describes the windows and help functions available.

1.1 Before Getting Started

Before configuring and starting up, make sure that the CDS software has been installed properly in accordancewith the 'CDS Installation Instructions' (GKWF 310292).

1.2 Conventions

This manual uses the following conventions:

Italic, boldface text Entries via keyboard.<key> Name of an individual key on the keyboard.[button] Menu item or button in a window.'title' Label or title of a window.

2 Logging-in for CDS Operation

Procedure:- After turning on the computer, wait for the CDS computer to complete the booting process (this will take

about 2 minutes).A window for entering the user name and password will appear.

- Log in with the user name 'cds' and password 'cds'.The person responsible for the CDS system is in charge of password management as well.

3 Windowing System

The CDS software offers a number of windows. The windowing system allows the user to manipulate andcustomize some of the windows. All user actions for this purpose are carried out by mouse operation:

How to use the mouse:

Left mouse button:Use left mouse button to select specific window elements (buttons, menu buttons, switches, etc.).Position the mouse pointer over the window element, and press and release the left mouse buttonquickly to click on the window element once.

Center mouse button:This mouse button is reserved for application-specific functions(such as quick display of diagnostic information from the next level down).

Right mouse button:This mouse button is reserved for application-specific functions(such as quick activation of the user help functions).

3.1 Moving Windows

The windows can be moved on the screen. Shape and contents of the windows are retained.

Procedure:- Position the mouse pointer on the title bar of the window.- Press left mouse button and hold it down.- Move the window to the desired position (the window frame is being moved to the new position).- Release the left mouse button again. The entire window is now shown on the new position.- The new position is saved automatically.

3.2 Changing the Window Size

Some of the windows can be changed in size.

Procedure:- Position the mouse pointer on the edge of the window. (The mouse pointer will change its

appearance).- Press the left mouse button and keep it down.- Pull the mouse pointers until the desired window size is obtained.- Release the left mouse button again.- The new window size is saved automatically.

3.3 Converting Windows to Icons and Back Again

Some of the windows can be represented in the form of icons, i.e., as graphical symbols.A window that is not needed at the moment (e.g.: 'CDS-Selection' or 'CDS-Selection-Output') can be convertedto an icon and can be restored again to the normal image when required. In either case, the application willremain active.

Procedure for converting a window into an icon:Use the left mouse button to click on the right button (square symbol) in the title bar of the window.

Procedure for restoring the normal window image:- Activate the icon by (quickly) double-clicking on it using the left mouse button.- Or, click on the icon with the left mouse button once. Icon name and icon menu are displayed. Now

activate menu item [Open].

3.4 Activating Windows

Only one window at a time can be in the activated state. Any keyboard input or manipulation by mouse clickaffects one window only.Activate a window for entering data by moving the mouse pointer over that window and clicking on it using theleft mouse button. As soon as the window is activated, its title bar and frame will turn blue.

3.5 Console Input

Upon selection of menu item [Start] --> [Programs]->[Command Prompt] in the 'Start Menur‘, the 'Consolewindow‘ will open up.

The 'Console window‘ can be used for configuring the CDS.

4 The CDS Software

4.1 CDS Applications

The CDS software mainly consists of four applications:

1 D CDS diagnosis* Receiving all diagnostic messages coming from the CDS coupling modules.* Writing the messages into the archive.* Updating the current diagnostic image.

2 U CDS user interface* Graphic display of the current diagnostic image for fast localization of disturbances.* Monitoring all CDS applications.* Help system for operating the CDS and help functions regarding the diagnostic messages.

3 S CDS selection* Selectively searching for diagnostic messages from the archive.* General acknowledgement in the current diagnostic image.* General search in the current diagnostic image.* Displaying system data and station information.

4 P CDS log* Logging all incoming diagnostic messages on screen and/or over the printer.

The applications run independently of each other and are monitored and controlled from the CDS user interface.

4.2 Configuring the CDS (User Input)

Configuration of the CDS must take place before starting up the software. The entries for configuring the systemare made by the user in a Console Window.

After the CDS software has been installed, the following configuration steps have to be performed:

- CONFIG_CDS LANGUAGE Selecting the language.- CONFIG_CDS GENERAL Entering various CDS parameters/addresses. *)- CONFIG_CDS STATION Entering the station data. *)- CONFIG_CDS STAADL Creating an address list for the hard-wired signals. *)

The following configuration steps are not mandatory:

- CONFIG_CDS TIME Checking and setting date and time.- CONFIG_CDS PASSWORD Changing the CDS password.- CONFIG_CDS FDADL Creating an address list for the user-configurable

diagnostic functions. *)

Configurations can be changed any time. However, for that purpose, the CDS software needs to be stopped.

*)- Entry of CONFIG_CDS ALL allows to configure these items, and the configuration program provides for

menu guidance of the user.- By adding parameter NOTEPAD, the configuration files can be edited in the NOTEPAD editor.

4.2.1 Checking and Setting the Time

If the PROCONTROL P system includes a time master (87TS01/R2313), the CDS will synchronize itself to theapplicable system time. If there is no time master installed, the time of the CDS computer will be used.Therefore, the internal time needs to be checked and corrected if need be.The same applies to correcting the date.

Procedure:- Open the icon of the Windows NT 4.0 clock by clicking on it with the right mouse button. Then activate the menu item „Adjust Date/Time“.

4.2.2 Selecting the Language

The CDS software supports a number of different languages (presently: German and English). Specify thelanguage that is to be used before first starting up the program.

Procedure:- CONFIG_CDS LANGUAGE <RETURN> starts up an interactive configuration program.- The language used so far and the applicable parameters are displayed. You will be prompted to choose

the language to be used.Select one of the given parameters or accept the parameter indicated in [] by pressing <RETURN>.

4.2.3 Changing the CDS Password

Some of the CDS functions are password-protected. This password is not the password used by the CDS user,but an internal CDS password.This password is needed, for instance, to switch from 'normal mode' to 'service mode'.Upon initial installation or any SW update, this password is defined as 'CDS'.

Procedure:- CONFIG_CDS PASSWORD <RETURN> starts up an interactive configuration program.- Enter the old password.- Enter the new password.

Input range:- Min. 3 characters, max. 30 characters.- First character must be a letter.- There is no distinction made between lower-case and upper-case letters.

Letters and numerals can be combined as desired.- Enter the new password for verification.- If all the entries are error-free, the new password will be accepted.

4.2.4 Entering the General CDS Parameters (GENERAL)

The CDS needs to know the address of the CDS station, the addresses of the CDS coupling modules87TS01/R255x, and the address of the master clock. The diagnosis register of the 88TK0x module of the CDScoupling station is mirrored by a 83SR0x module located in any multi-purpose processing station that is linkedto the CDS coupling station via remote bus. For this purpose, the user needs to configure the correspondingaddresses.File GENERAL.DAT (cf. Appendix: File GENERAL.DAT) contains all of the preconfigured data. The user simplyneeds to adapt the data to the real system specifications.

Procedure:- CONFIG_CDS GENERAL <RETURN> starts up the configuration program with the respective file.- You will be prompted to choose whether the existing data are to be changed.

If you enter NO, the reference data will be used as a basis for the parameters; previously configureddata are deleted in that case.For initial configuration, enter NO <RETURN>.If you enter YES <RETURN> or only <RETURN>, the data configured so far will be accepted.

If coupling module 3 is not provided, the field for module 3 remains empty.

4.2.5 Entering the Station Data (STATION)

All stations of one and the same system can be entered into file STATION.DAT (cf. Appendix: FileSTATION.DAT).

The following information is evaluated:

* PLA entry for the entire system, including:- Identification code: PLA- Cabinet type for all stations (cf. Appendix: 'Design samples').- Plant name.

* Entry per station, including:- Identification code: station address- Line to which the station is connected.- KKS code of the station. *)- Cabinet type for this station (if different from PLA entry)

(cf. below and Appendix: 'Design samples').- Indicate whether the station is a redundant station or a coupling station.- Comment on the station (will be displayed in 'Station Diagnosis' under 'Location').

* Use of text fields for plant diagnosis:- Identification code: T1, T2 or T3- Figures 1, 2, or 3 define the width of the field (e.g.: T2 is twice the size of a station

field).- Arbitrary text that will be displayed in the appropriate text field.- A maximum of 20 text fields are permissible.

* Sequence of entries:The station and text fields are shown in the 'Plant Diagnosis' window in the same order as the entrieswere made into the list. It is therefore advisable to first make the entries for VSA, VSB, and US tomake sure that these three fields will be shown in the upper left-hand corner of the 'Plant Diagnosis'window.Stations which are not entered into the list will be shown at the end of the 'Plant Diagnosis' window inascending order (according to station address).

Procedure:- CONFIG_CDS STATION <RETURN> starts up the configuration program with the

appropriate file.- You will be prompted to define whether the existing data are to be changed.

Upon NO, the reference data will be used as a basis for the station data; previously configured dataare deleted in that case.Enter NO <RETURN> for initial configuration!Upon YES <RETURN> or simply <RETURN>, the data configured so far will be accepted.

*)The KKS code of the station can be used if there is no computer with design data (e.g. ANDAR) availabe formanually assigning station designation codes and module location codes. Initialization with the designationcodes (cf. Section: 'Initializing the CDS with KKS codes from STATION.DAT'), however, must be performed onlyafter 'Initializing the CDS with plant data' (cf. below) has taken place, i.e., when the plant image includes all ofthe currently existing modules.

4.2.5.1 Selecting the Cabinet Equipment of the Multi-Purpose Processing Stations

The representation of the 'Station Diagnosis' is based on defined cabinet equipment (address wiring). Thecabinet equipment can be defined commonly for all of the multi-purpose processing stations, or separately foreach individual station.If no specific cabinet type is entered under the station data for a certain station (cf. Section: 'Entering thestation data'), the type selected for the entire plant under the PLA identification will be used.The appendix 'Design samples' lists the module fields for all possible design configurations.

4.2.6 Creating an Address List for Hard-Wired Signals (STAADL)

The hard-wired signals of the master station are listened in on by binary input modules.The STAADL.DAT file (cf. Appendix: File STAADL.DAT) contains all preconfigured data. The user simplyneeds to adjust the addresses to the real system specifications.

If an entry is not to be loaded, enter priority 0.

Procedure:- CONFIG_CDS STAADL <RETURN> starts up the configuration program with the associated file.- You will be prompted to specify whether the existing data are to be changed.

Upon NO, the reference data will be used as a basis for the addresses; previously configureddata is deleted in that case.For initial configuration, enter NO <RETURN>.Upon YES <RETURN> or only <RETURN>, the data configured so far will be accepted.

4.2.7 Creating an Address List for the User-Configurable Diagnostic Functions (FDADL)

A maximum of 32 different binary telegrams each containing a maximum of 16 different signals (bits 0through 15) can be used for user-configurable diagnosis.

ATTENTION:Do not configure any addresses of analog signals or rapidly changing binary signals, since the messagearchive would be filled up unnecessarily due to frequent change messages.The signals are entered in file FDADL.DAT (cf. Appendix: File FDADL.DAT).

If an entry is not to be loaded, you may either enter priority 0 or delete the entry from the list.

4.2.8 Configuring the CDS for FDDI Systems

Create a file „FDDI.DAT“ in the directory %LDS$DAT%.

A specific configuration for FDDI systems is not necessary, since the CDS software is already preparedappropriately.

The following functions are available for FDDI systems:

- TK50 message 4413 'Ring redundancy fault' is enabled.- TK50 message 4444 'Acknowledgement error detected' is enabled.- Master stations A and B are no longer displayed.- FDDI cabinet MS02R4100 is available as a standard cabinet in the CDS configuration program.

4.3 Initializing the CDS

After the CDS software has been installed, the following initialization steps must be carried out once:

- INIT_CDS ALL Initializing the entire CDS.

The following initialization steps can be started separately if necessary:

- INIT_DB Initializing the CDS database.- INIT_DIAG Initializing the CDS with plant data.- INIT_KKS Initializing the CDS with KKS codes from the station data of STATION.DAT.- INIT_PROJECT Initializing with all of the design data (including range indication).- INIT_SIGNAL Initializing the CDS with the signal codes of the design data (including

range indication).

4.3.1 Initializing the Entire CDS

Enter INIT_CDS ALL <RETURN> to initialize the CDS.

For initialization, the following steps are carried out:* INIT_DB Initializing the CDS database.* INIT_DIAG Initializing the CDS with plant data.

Then, e.g. if no design computer is available for loading the design data, INIT_KKS must be executed.

4.3.2 Initializing the CDS Database

Enter INIT_DB <RETURN> to initialize all of the CDS databases.

For initialization, the following steps are carried out:* The module-specific data is loaded.* The language-specific message texts are loaded.* The station-specific data is loaded.* All data of the current diagnostic image are reset.

The diagnostic messages in the message archive are retained.* The plant image is initialized with the design data from file %CDS$CFG%\PROJECT.DAT (without range

indication).* The signal codes are initialized with the design data from file %CDS$CFG%\PROJECT.DAT (without

range indication).

4.3.3 Initializing the CDS with Plant Data

Enter INIT_DIAG <RETURN> to initialize CDS with plant data.The CDS independently identifies what stations are connected and which modules they contain. For thispurpose, all of the modules are scanned and their identification read. The resulting plant image is used as abasis for the diagnostic mode.

For initialization, the following steps are carried out:* The plant image is initialized with the plant data of the connected plant

(takes about 1 minute/station).

4.3.4 Initializing the CDS with KKS Codes from STATION.DAT

If no design data are available, the CDS can be initialized with KKS codes after 'Initializing the CDS with plantdata' has been completed.Enter INIT_KKS <RETURN> to initialize the CDS with user-configured design data from file%CDS$CFG%\STATION.DAT (cf. Section: 'Entering the station data').

For initialization, the following steps are carried out:* The station KKS codes from file STATION.DAT are initialized.* The module slot KKS codes are initialized on the basis of the module arrangement.

4.3.5 Initializing the CDS with Design Data

Enter INIT_PROJECT <RETURN> to initialize the CDS with the design data.

For initialization, the following steps are carried out:* The plant image is initialized with the design data from file %CDS$CFG%\PROJECT.DAT

(including range indication: station, module).* The signal codes are initialized with the design data from file

%CDS$CFG%\PROJECT.DAT (including range indication: station, module).

4.3.5.1 Initializing the CDS with the Signal Codes of the Design Data

Enter INIT_SIGNAL <RETURN> to initialize the CDS with the signal codes.

4.4 Starting the CDS Software

After the CDS has been configured and initialized, the CDS software can be started.

Activation of menu item [Start] -> [Programs] -> [Lds] -> [Lds Start] starts up all the applications.A Console Window will appear showing the startup procedure.

For startup, the following steps are carried out:

* Application 'CDS Log' is started.A window in the form of an icon will appear, titled 'CDS log output'. For the purpose of log output,additional log windows are opened depending on the desired output format.

* Application 'CDS-Selection' is started.A window entitled 'CDS-Selection' will appear as an icon and allow the user to enter search criteria;another window icon, entitled 'CDS selection output', will appear for the output of the 'CDS-Selection'application.

* The 'CDS user interface' application is started.A window in the form of an icon will appear, titled 'CDS user interface output', where the 'CDS userinterface' application is running. In addition, the 'CDS control diagnostic system for plant PLANT NAME'window with menu bar and a window for 'Plant Diagnosis' (containing a station overview) will open up.

* Application 'CDS diagnosis' is started up.The 'CDS diagnosis output' window will appear, showing the 'CDS diagnosis' application running.

It takes about 2 minutes until all of the applications have started and the CDS is running at its full capacity.

4.4.1 Output Windows

The output windows show the specific applications running. Clicking on an output window will change the colorof title bar and frame. No entries are admissible in these windows. By no means should the output be stoppedby pressing keys <CTRL> <S>. This would abort the application (causing loss of messages for that 'CDSdiagnosis' application). If an output window has been activated, any output stop will be indicated on thekeyboard by an illuminated 'Display stop' LED. 'Display stop' can be canceled by pressing key <CTRL> <Q>one more time.

4.4.2 Warm-Start Phase

During a CDS software startup or in the event of an error, the 'CDS diagnosis' application runs through a warm-start phase.

The start of a warm start is recorded with the following message:

During warm start:

- The following will take place:- Establishing a connection with the CDS coupling modules.- Testing and initializing the CDS coupling modules.- Checking whether a master clock is available in the system.- Loading masks onto the coupling modules.- Synchronizing to the existing PROCONTROL P system.

- In the milliseconds range, the messages are marked with '--'.- Messages from self-diagnosis (ED) are logged with real milliseconds.- From message areas SK, SV and TR, all presently pending (incoming) disturbance messages are logged.- From message areas GE, DD, FD and ST, the incoming/outgoing changes are logged.- Between the beginning and end of the warm-start phase, the '0006 time synchronization' message is

logged.'OK' message means:

Master clock available. CDS computer synchronized to the master clock.'Bad' message means:

Master clock not available or not ready, or the master clock address was configuredincorrectly. The CDS coupling modules use the CDS computer time.

The end of a warm start is indicated by the following message:

4.3 Terminating the CDS Software

Perform the following steps to terminate the CDS software:- Change over from [Function] to [Service mode] in the CDS User Interface menu.- Enter the CDS password for this purpose.- Terminate the CDS software in the CDS User Interface menu [Function] -> [Exit].- You will be asked one more time whether CDS should be terminated. Upon [Yes], all of the CDS

applications are stopped and the windows are closed.

For restarting the CDS software, see section 'Starting the CDS software'.

4.4 Turning off the CDS Computer

It is not advisable to switch the CDS computer on and off more often than necessary. When it should becomenecessary, however, to turn the CDS off, proceed as follows:

- First, terminate the CDS software as described above.Use <CTRL><ALT><DEL> and activate the system shutdown procedure with theButton „Shut down“

- Wait until the computer has completed the shutdown procedure.- You can turn off the CDS computer now.

5 Mode of Operation

The CDS consists of a processing computer with a high-resolution 21“ color Monitor, keyboard, mouse, printer,and a coupling to a PROCONTROL P system. The CDS automatically configures itself for the connectedPROCONTROL P control system. It acquires all diagnostic messages of the control system and provides anoverview display of the PROCONTROL P system status (diagnostic image). The windowing technique used inthe display facilitates localization of errors, and help texts can be called up for suggestions on how to eliminatethem. All diagnostic messages are stored in a message archive (for 65000 messages). Upon request, specificmessages can be searched for in the archive, and, if necessary, printed out. If the PROCONTROL P systemhas an integrated time master (87TS01/R2313 ), the coupling station is synchronized to this system-specifictime. If no time master is provided, the internal clock of the coupling modules will be set and monitored by theprocessing computer.

Stations and modules of the PROCONTROL P system continuously carry out diagnostic functions and signalpossible disturbances over the bus. These signals are received by the CDS, are stored there in a messagearchive on a disk drive, and are used for updating the diagnostic image.

If a diagnostic message is received in the form of a general station signal ('Group malfunction station'), the CDSwill automatically request detailed diagnostic data.The diagnostic messages from multi-purpose processing stations and modules come from diagnosis register246 or from send-data telegrams with register addresses 0...191 of the PROCONTROL P modules.

Exceptions include:- Master station messages

The list data of the master station are evaluated, and the corresponding messages are generated.- Monitoring station messages

The signals are hard-wired and are received from binary input modules.- Diagnostic messages from coupling modules 88QT02 and 88QT03

In this case, additional messages from diagnosis register 211 are evaluated.

The diagnosis registers of modules 88TK0x, 88TV0x and 88TR0x are sent automatically from the controlsystem to the coupling modules of the CDS. Any changes in the diagnosis registers are indicated to the CDSby the coupling modules, and are evaluated by the CDS diagnostics.

If the 'Group malfunction station' message is pending in the diagnosis register of the 88TK0x, the CDS willrequest the diagnosis registers of that station's modules in order to obtain detailed diagnostic data on thestation concerned.

If message 'Bus coupling fault' is pending in an 88QT02 or 88QT03, the CDS will request additional informationfrom register 211.

Send-data telegrams with set disturbance bits are detected, and the particular disturbance or error in the datatelegram is logged. These signals do not affect the current diagnostic image.

5.1 Message Areas

The CDS separates and groups the diagnostic messages based on what are referred to as message areas.Some of the message areas can be deactivated for a specific configuration. Each message is allocated to acertain message area, and is identified by an unambiguous message number.

DD Data diagnosis (can be deactivated)Control-system disturbance messages in the data telegrams. Messages on faulty data of input, output,or processing modules.A maximum of 512 faulty data telegrams can be acquired. If more than 512 data telegrams aretransmitted with their disturbance bits set, these additional telegrams will not be logged.

5.2 Color Coding

A number of states that are scanned in selected system components are indicated by a specifically coloredbackground of the address field or of the message number. The color codes used for disturbance messagesdepend on the priority level of that message. If a state has not been acknowledged yet, the color coding isinverted (black writing on a colored background).

* Green Error-free state* Red (Priority 1):

Error message of highest priority.The availability of the system is in danger.

* Orange (Priority 2):Disturbance that might cause a priority-1 error if left pending for too long.

* Yellow (Priority 3):Brief error message caused by sporadic errors; or failure ofself-diagnosis functions of PROCONTROL P subsystems.

* White A module or station is included in the equipment plan, but has not respondedyet.

* Magenta A module or station no longer responds in diagnostic mode.* Blue Fields are waiting for input.* Light gray Status fields.

5.4 Error Handling by the CDS

As soon as a control-system error message is detected by the CDS, the color code used for that systemcomponent in the current diagnostic image is inverted. In addition, the incoming diagnostic message is storedin the message archive.

For example:Message 6601 'Processing fault' occurs in an 81EU01 input module (PROCONTROL P address 3) belonging tostation 15.

5.4.1 Display on the CDS

- In the 'CDS Log' application, the incoming message is logged together with date, time, slot / functionKKS code, P address, message text, state, message number, message area, and priority.

- In the 'CDS User Interface' application, the following changes take place:* In 'Plant Diagnosis':

A change of color in station 15 to red/inverted indicating thata new message has been detected for this station, but not yet acknowledged.

* In 'Station Diagnosis' (if displayed for this station):A change of color in the module with address 3 (81EU01) to red/inverted indicatingthat a new message has been detected for this module, but not yetacknowledged.

* In 'Module Diagnosis' (if displayed for this module):A change of color of message number 6601 to red/inverted indicating that amessage having priority 1 has been detected, but not yet acknowledged.

5.4.2 Error Finding and Error Recovery

- Select menu item [KKS] in the cabinet door of station 15 in the 'Plant Diagnosis' window in order toactivate the 'Station Diagnosis' window for this station.

- In the 'Station Diagnosis' window, module 3 (81EU01) is shown as red/inverted indicating that anunacknowledged message is pending for this module. Select menu item [KKS] under module type toactivate the 'Module Diagnosis' window for this module.

- The 'Module Diagnosis' window shows the decoded diagnosis register of this particular module. Messagenumber 6601 indicating a 'Processing fault' is red/inverted (red standing for priority 1). This color codeindicates that this message is pending and has not yet been acknowledged.

- Select field '6601' using the left mouse button and press the <Help> key to activate the help function forthis diagnostic message.

- The help function offers a detailed description of the message and of how to eliminate the disturbance.- After having read the message, you can acknowledge it under 'Module Diagnosis'. In this case, the entire

diagnosis register of the module is being acknowledged. This means that all messages pending in thismodule at that time will be acknowledged. The color code of the message changes to the non-invertedstate. At the same time, this module is acknowledged in the 'Station Diagnosis' as well. If there are nofurther, unacknowledged messages pending in that station, the station will also be automaticallyacknowledged in the 'Plant Diagnosis' window.

5.4.3 Searching for Diagnostic Messages in the Message Archive

The current diagnostic image provides no information on when a message has occurred. However, everyincoming message is stored in the archive where the user can look up the time of the occurrence.

Procedure:- First activate the [Selective Search] function in the 'CDS-Selection' application. For this purpose, activate

menu item [Selective Search] in the [Function] menu. The activated function is displayed. The [Apply]button is now active.

- Define the search criterion in the entry for searching through the archive. You can do this by eitherentering the values via keyboard or by clicking on the blue arrows. For this purpose, first click on the fieldthat is to be changed. Use the arrows to specify the value. The special advantage of using the arrows isthat only the valid value range is run through.

- Start the search operation with [Apply]. The search takes some time (depending on the number ofmessages found).

- All messages meeting the search criterion are displayed in the 'CDS-Selection Output' window, providedthat the 'Screen output' switch is activated.

- If the data are to be printed, printing must be prepared with the 'Printer Output' switch before the searchis initiated. However, the data will not be printed immediately, but are only prepared for printing. Select[Print] to activate the printer.

6. Operating the CDS

The CDS offers a number of windows to the user. These windows contain the CDS displays and are used foroperating the system, a help system being included.

These operating instructions explain the various windows and describe how to use help system. Detailedinformation on the CDS software is given in the integrated help system.

6.1 Help System

The operating instructions as well as the help functions available for the various message numbers areintegrated in the CDS software. The CDS User Interface menu [Help] also includes a section on how to operatethe CDS.In addition, help is available for each one of the applications (CDS-Diagnosis, CDS-Userinterface, CDS-Selection and CDS-Log).

There are different ways of activating the help option:1 Enter the help menu by selecting menu item [Help] using the left mouse button. A menu is

displayed. By keeping the left mouse button pressed and selecting the desired section, the help optionis activated.

2 [Help] buttons are available in the windows. Upon selection of this button using the left mousebutton, the help applicable to this window is displayed.

3 Select a window element with the left mouse button and press the <help> key on thekeyboard to display the help available for this element (e.g. help on the texts for the individual messagenumbers).This feature is not available for all of the window elements.

4 The windows include a [?] button. When clicking on this button using the left mouse button, themouse pointer is represented as a '?'. Now the mouse pointer can be moved around inside this particularwindow only. Click on a specific window element (key, switch, input field) using the left mouse button toactivate the help option applicable to this field or element. The symbol of the mouse pointer is shown inits original form again.

Some of the help options offer 'Additional Topics'. They can be activated by quickly double-clicking using theleft mouse button.

6.1.1 User Help

The CDS makes it possible to enter user-defined help texts (plant information, experience gathered, etc.).These texts can be modified as required; they can be saved and printed.

6.2 CDS Windows

The CDS software windows are shown below and their functions are described briefly.Detailed information on the individual windows is available in the integrated help system.

6.2.1 Main Window with Message Area Display and Menu Bar

The main window includes product and system names, menu bar, message area display, the status fields forthe life signals of the applications, general status and a general status line.

6.2.1.1 Life Signals and General Status

The life signals indicate the status (green/light green/red) of:

Clicking on the symbol will display the associated text in the status line.If a diagnostic status message is pending in a certain area, the associated symbol is shown in the appropriatecolor. Green indicates that there is no message pending for this particular general status.

The life signals correspond to the life-signal telegram that is sent cyclically by the CDS to the PROCONTROLP bus (including the address of the first CDS coupling module, register address 0).

The general status corresponds to the contents of the static general status telegram that is sent cyclically bythe CDS to the PROCONTROL P bus (including the address of the first CDS coupling module, register address1).

6.2.1.2 The Menu Bar

The menu bar contains the following menu items:

6.2.2 Plant Diagnosis

This window shows all existing stations in a specific plant. This display is the top level of the graphic displayhierarchy used by the CDS.Every station connected is represented by a station field with station address (on top), cabinet door (on theright) and indications for line, mask, and redundancy (on the left, one below the other).Incoming diagnostic messages are indicated by a certain color coding of the station address.

Click on the closed cabinet door in the station field using the left mouse button to activate a menu (in displayfor station 71).- Select menu item [KKS] to go to 'Station Diagnosis'. The cabinet door opens.- Select menu item [Station information] to activate the 'Station Information' for this station.- Select menu item [User Help] to activate the 'User Help' for this station.

Use the center mouse button to click on the closed cabinet door in order to go directly to 'Station Diagnosis'.

This window shows a view of the entire station including all of the modules installed.

In the upper window area, general station data are displayed. The mask indications are located underneath (thefigure shows a GE mask being set). In the center area, all of the modules belonging to this station arerepresented.The bottom line contains the following buttons:[Close] Closes the window.[Acknowledge] Acknowledges all diagnostic statuses. The station is acknowledged

In the upper area of the window, general module data are displayed. Mask indications (in this case, a GE maskhas been set), module counter, and status display (RAM mode in the illustration) are located underneath. Thecenter area of the display shows the decoded contents of the diagnosis register (depending on the moduletype).

6.2.5 Master Station Diagnosis

This window shows a summary of all messages from the master station.

In the upper window section, general master station data are displayed. All the master station messages aredisplayed underneath.

The bottom line contains the following buttons:[Close] Closes the window.[Acknowledge] Acknowledges all diagnostic status messages.

The master station is acknowledged in the 'Plant Diagnosis' window as well.[Status] Activates the 'Station Information' display.[Help] Activates the 'ONLINE Help' for this window.[?] Context-sensitive help.[Delete] Resets messages 3xxx and 4xxx.

This button is active in service mode only.

6.2.6 Configuration - General Functions

This window is designed for general configuration of the CDS.

'CDS-Userinterface':- The 'Beep' refers to the application itself, not to diagnostic messages from the control system.- Upon activation of 'User Help', this function is made available automatically.- The 'Remote-CDS' status is displayed for networked CDS computers only.

'CDS-Log':- The user can choose from three different output formats

(cf. section: 'Message Log Formats' ).- Display of the number of messages that have not been logged yet (16 messages in

this case).- In addition, printer output of the log can be activated.

'CDS-Selection':As long as a search or display function is running, the [STOP...] button is available. To interrupt thesearch or display function, press this button.This may be useful when a search procedure discovers a great number of messages (4489 in theillustration), and no further output of the messages is required.

General status information:- Status of the master clock.- The printer status field indicates which application is using the printer at the

time.- Number of coupling modules.

6.2.7 Configuration - Activating the Message Areas

Different message areas can be activated or deactivated in this window.A green switch indicates that a message area has been activated (GE, DD, FD and ST In the figure above).A gray switch indicates that a message area has been deactivated.

The status is shown in the message area field below the menu bar. The activated status is identified byincreased legibility of that particular message area in the message area field.

Any change in a message area is logged under self-diagnosis.

6.2.8 Configuration - Setting Masks

In this window, the user can set masks for certain message areas. 10 different masks are available for eachone of the message areas - SK, SV, TR, GE, DD, and VS. A mask is effective at station level. The maskindex is shown on the right, next to the mask type.A message is in a deactivated state if the associated switch is shown in color, i.e. yellow (e.g. 4417 'Telegramerror in AS detected'). Deactivated messages are not scanned, i.e. they do not affect the current diagnosticimage nor will they be logged or archived.

Indication for a mask set:- In the 'Plant Diagnosis' window: an 'M' is indicated in the station concerned.- In the 'Station Diagnosis': the respective mask field is clearly legible and displayed in

yellow.Upon activation of the mask field, the set mask is displayed.

- In the 'Module Diagnosis' window, the mask field is clearly legible and yellow.Activate the mask field to display the mask set.The deactivated bit number is indicated in yellow as well.

Any mask change is logged under self-diagnosis.

The [Apply] and [Delete] buttons are accessible in service mode only.

The following input fields display the same contents for SK, SV, TR, and GE as the 'Module Diagnosis' windowfor that particular module type.

6.2.9 Special Function 'Scan Station'

In this window, the user can scan and update station data. For this purpose, all the modules of a station areidentified and the module-specific data (module type, HW/SW version) are scanned.

The [Apply] button is available in service mode only.

6.2.10 Special Function 'Scan Plant'

There is no separate window for this special function.

Upon activation of this option, the 'Plant Diagnosis' window is recreated.This may become necessary if new stations are added during commissioning which were not present at thetime when the CDS was being initialized, or if a projected station that does not exist in the real plant is to beremoved from the display.Although the CDS automatically recognizes added stations, they are not automatically represented in the'Plant Diagnosis' window.

When a 'Station Diagnosis' or 'Module Diagnosis' window is opened, these windows are closed.

The menu button is accessible in service mode only.

6.2.11 Special Function 'System Data'

In this window, the user can request the following system data:- System cycle time- Count of events per second (updating in minute cycles)- Count of event telegrams per cycle, separately for different data types- Count of cyclic telegrams per cycle, separately for different data types

The request for data can be specified either for the entire plant (leave station field blank), for an entire station(leave module field blank), or for a special module.Only one combination of functions may be active at a time.

To activate a certain function, set the corresponding switch to 'A' (switch is now green) and then press [Apply].The writing on the switch changes from black to blue as soon as the function is active.

You can activate several functions at the same time.The 'System Cycle Time' function is always started along with the other functions.The status line indicates in which area the system data scan is active at the moment. Next to the status lineon the left, the time when the scanning operation was started is displayed.The entire display is updated at cycles of 10 seconds.The scanning operation will continue even after the window has been closed.To stop the scan, set all system data switches to 'OFF' (switch displayed in gray), and the press [Apply].

Changeovers for outputting the values for a different data type can be made ONLINE:

- Current: Displays the values that are currently being averaged since the scan has beenstarted.

- Minimum: Displays the values acquired at minimum system cycle time since the scan hasbeen started.

- Maximum: Displays the values at maximum system cycle time since the scan has beenstarted.

A blue switch indicates which table is being displayed at the moment.

The window size may be customized.

6.2.12 Special Function 'FD Free Diagnosis'

This window offers all the data that are available for user-configurable diagnosis (free diagnosis).

The [Configuration], [Load] and [-> ...] buttons are accessible in service mode only.Configuring and loading can be done ONLINE.

Click on the message number (9016 in the illustration) using the center mouse button (and keeping the buttonpressed) to display the configured message text in a small window.

6.2.13 Message Window

In the event of erroneous entries or in the case of internal CDS messages, the related text will be displayed in amessage window in the upper center of the screen.This window remains activated until acknowledged. During this time, no entries can be made in other windows.- Depending on the priority of the hint info, the background of the window will change color:- White Hint- Yellow Warning- Red Error

If several hints are given without them being acknowledged, the texts are listed one below the other. Thebackground of the message window indicates the priority of the last hint.

6.2.14 Information Window

The information window can be used for:- Terminating the CDS software - [Exit] button in the 'Function' menu- Removing a station - [Delete] button in the station diagnosis- Removing a module - [Delete] button in the module diagnosis- Saving the user help - User help text was changed- Station information - [Status] button in the station diagnosis

Depending on the operation to be performed, the information window will display a question.[Yes] will execute the operation and close the window.[No] will cancel the operation and close the window.The information window can be opened only once. Activation means:The desired field is selected by mouse click (position the mouse pointer on the field and click on it usingthe left mouse button). The selected field is given a differently colored (blue) frame. Then, the field isactivated by pressing the <RETURN> key.

User help is activated for:

CDS in general:- By activating menu item [Help] -> [User Help].

Plant in general:- By activating the system number in the 'Master Station Diagnosis' window.

A certain message number:- By activating that message number in the 'Module Diagnosis', 'VST Diagnosis', 'Set Masks' or 'Free

Diagnosis' windows.- Automatically in combination with the help on a message number if 'User Help' was activated in

[Configuration] -> [General].

A certain station:- By activating menu item [User Help] for a particular station in the 'Plant Diagnosis' window.

6.2.17 CDS Log

Incoming diagnostic messages or internal CDS status messages are stored in a CDS message archive (cyclicbuffer) for 65000 messages, and are logged by the 'CDS Log' application.

Log output is possible in three different formats (at the same time). These formats may be selected ONLINE in[Configuration] --> [General]. For each output format, a separate window is opened. The related window isopened every time a switchover is made.

Output takes place in a message logging window which does not include an input option. The latest 500messages are displayed in the message logging window and can be scrolled by using the scroll bar on theright side of the window. If the display is in scrolled-back position and a new message is being logged, thedisplay is automatically scrolled forward to the end of the message log.

In addition, the log output can be directed to the printer.For this purpose, the 'Printer Output' switch in [Configuration] -> [General] must be set to ON. Attention is to bepaid to the fact that the printer must be ready for operation (power on, correct settings, on-line, paper available).

6.2.17.1 Message Log Formats

The 'CDS Log' application can use three different output formats:

Long format:with small-size character font, 132 characters per line, and complete data contents.

6.2.18 CDS Selection

Incoming diagnostic messages or internal CDS status messages are stored in a CDS message archive (cyclicbuffer) for 65000 messages, and are included in the current diagnostic image. Under 'CDS-Selection', the usercan select messages from the archive and select either display in or delete from the current diagnostic image.The data is displayed and can be printed if necessary.

The following functions can be activated from this application window:- Selective search Searching for diagnostic messages in the message archive- General acknowledgement Acknowledging messages in the current diagnostic image- General search Searching for pending disturbances in the current diagnostic image- Number of modules Counting the number of PROCONTROL P modules- System data Displaying and deleting system data- Station data Displaying station data and resetting the message counter

The currently active function is indicated in the upper right-hand section of the window, next to the 'Function'menu item.

The data is output in the 'CDS-Selection Output' window.

The latest 500 output lines are displayed in the output window and can be scrolled back and forth using thescroll bar on the right side of the window.

The output can be defined with a variety of switches.

The 'Number' switch:The number of the incoming/outgoing messages found is counted and indicated separately for everymessage number.

The 'Messages' switch:All the incoming/outgoing messages found are displayed in the long log format.

The 'Screen Output' switch:Data output in the 'CDS-Selection Output' window will not take place unless this switch has beenactivated.

The 'Printer Output' switch:The output data is additionally written into a file which is available for printout upon activation of [Print].

All the results obtained from a Selective Search may be printed either on the log printer or on theNT system printer.

7.2 Automatic display and saving of a 24-hour report at shift changeover

Depending on the day of the week, up to 4 different start times per day can be defined in aconfiguration file. The shortest admissible interval in this case is 10 minutes.

At the start times so defined, the Selective Search function is automatically given the right startparameters and is started. The search procedure runs in reverse direction, through a time span of24 hours.The results are given in summarized form for each message type and, in addition, are listedchronologically for a time span of 24 hours.

The file is stored in the print directory of the CDS, i.e. in the form of a PS_SEARCH.DAT file andas a log named MESSAGE_LOGGING_140999_1430.DAT, with date and time, for long-term archiving. Uponactivation of menu item "Print" under Selective Search, the PS_SEARCH.DAT file can be output on anNT system printer or on a message printer.

The MESSAGE_LOGGING_140999_1430.DAT file is opened using the NOTEPAD and is displayed at the timespecified.

After the CDS has been installed, a file named NoCycle_Time.dat is listed in the %lds$dat%directory.For activating the function, this file has to be renamed in Cycle_Time.dat.

7.3 List of all messages with double meanings, assigned to module typeand correct message text

Message area SK:

For the TK05/TK50, message 4408 means "Firmware partner module different"; in the case of TK01/TK02and PN02 the meaning is "Telgram abortion detected".

In CDS version V2.0 and higher, this message is suppressed for TK01/TK02 and PN02.

Message area SV:

For the TK05/TK50, message 4423 means "Operating mode setting wrong"; in the case of TV01 themeaning is "Slot wrong".

The texts are assigned to the module type and displayed correctly in the Selective Search and theLogging function.

Message area GE:

For module types SR04,SR07, SR50 and SR51, message 6603 means "Test macro activated"; for all theother processing modules the meaning is "Processing stopped".For the SR04/R1310, message 6613 means "Synchro-monitoring responded"; for all the other processingmodules the meaning is "Transmit section defective".

7.4 When clicking on a message in the output window of Selective Search orLogging with the right mouse button, the respective station / moduleopens up automatically

Clicking on a message in the output window of the Selective Search or logging function displays thestation or module concerned.The Procontrol address contained in the message is checked for plausibility.Clicking on messages without Procontrol addresses, such as self-diagnosis messages, has no effect.

7.5 Long-term archiving

Out of the 4 CDS databases, only the message archive and the CDS database, which contains plantdata from stations and modules, are used for long-term archiving.The message archive has a maximum storage capacity of 65535 messages, this means, a change in array65535 may cause the data to be saved.As the messages are filed along with a time stamp, comparing the date in the archived filename withthe date in array 65535 may provide information on whether the array has been overwritten. Inaddition, the CDS database is saved with the status valid at the time of archiving.
