Q1: Problem-based ultrasound anatomy sessions help students to visualise anatomical structures and functions and enhances the knowledge of clinical anatomy Q2: Moreover, ultrasound is highly effective for facilitating student learning and gives additional understanding in the basics of ultrasound imaging Q3: For example, the effects of early education in musculoskeletal ultrasound seem useful and are feasible for studentsQ4: Teaching an abdominal ultrasound examination improves also physical examination skills of medical students

Konzept: A peer-teaching approach was chosen with trained medical students supporting other students in learning ultrasound on themselves and practicing it.Trainierte medizinische Studenten untersttzten andere Studenten sich Ultraschall beizubringen und zu ben.
Q1: It has been shown that peerteaching is a useful learning concept from educational theory and the practical point of view. Several advantages are that students often feel more motivated with a near peer teacher compared to a senior expert and optimize their learning progression because of the narrow age and experience gap between teacher and student. The peer teachers themselves benefit from the processing of information during preparation, the delivery of education, and a higher motivational level
Four key reasons to use peer-teaching derived from ten Cate 2007() are:It offers education to students on their own cognitive levelIt prepares physicians for their future role as educatorsIt creates a comfortable and safe educational environmentIt trains leadership skills and confidence

Peer-assisted ultrasound tutorials for undergraduate medical studentsObjectives:We developed a peer-teaching tutorial on basic ultrasound skills called Sono4You for medical students. We describe this innovative teaching approach and evaluation data gathered over five years of experience at the Medical University of Vienna (MUVI) and the implementation of Sono4You at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) 2011 and 2012 conferences. Methods: Ultrasound tutorials were held at MUVI by experienced student tutors who were in advanced stages of their studies (4th - 6th year). 68 tutors provided 292 tutorials for 1471 participants over five years. The concept was presented at ECR 2011 and modified for handson workshops at ECR 2012 including an evaluation with questionnaires to explore acceptance of the training. Results:Sono4you was presented at ECR 2011 and awarded for its innovative educational concept. It was selected to be part of the Rising Stars Programme at ECR 2012 and was evaluated by 104 international undergraduate student participants. The quality of practical training and the overall learning experience was rated very highly with high demand for repeating this format.
Conclusions: Peer-teaching tutorials for basic ultrasound skills are feasible and highly accepted. They are a promising educational concept for use at medical schools and at international meetings.
