he German Society forQuality (DGQ) is an indepen-dent, member-based, non-profitorganization. Within an envi-ronment of permanent eco-nomic, social and culturalchange, DGQ offers ongoingsupport to its members andcustomers.

DGQ bases its continued suc-cess on a recognized educa-tion and training program in thearea of quality management. Inthis it is supported by the activeparticipation of its individualand corporate members in itscommittees, working groupsand regional sections as well

as by the expertise and com-mitment of its members andexternal partners. DGQ deve-lops, transmits and encouragescomprehensive expertise forthe creation and continuousimprovement of integratedmanagement systems for com-panies and organizations inorder that they may achieve thehighest-possible performanceon the competitive market.

This involves a wide-ranging,user-orientated and innovativerange of services includingtraining requirement planning,provision of correspondingtraining programs and certifi-cation of quality personnel.DGQ also undertakes scientificresearch and publication ofspecialist literature, contrib-utes to standardization proce-dures and participates in thedevelopment of managementmodels.

he DGQ ManagementSymposia offer specific infor-mation to the top managementby means of practice-orienta-ted lectures, exchange of infor-mation and contact withexperts from industry andassociations. Special empha-sis is placed on management

models, strategies and tech-niques including aspects ofglobalization.

In DGQ Projects and WorkingGroups, current expert know-ledge about managementsystems is collated and publis-hed. At present, the mainemphasis lies with themes fromthe quality management sector,but other management systemsare increasingly being dealtwith. The knowledge is gained

from technical rules and stan-dards, specialist literature andworldwide cooperation withspecialists and institutionsworking in the same fields. Theresult is made available to thepublic in the form of DGQ publi-cations (DGQ-Schriftenreihe),in the current DGQ web pageson the Internet, at specialist

congresses and workshops aswell as in DGQ training coursesand seminars. The aim is towork "from practice for prac-tice".

It is one of the aims of DGQ tosupport the scientific researchon procedures and methods ofquality management. For thispurpose, DGQ established theF o r s c h u n g s g e m e i n s c h a f tQualität e.V. (Federation forQuality, Research and Science)– FQS – in 1989. FQS has setitself the task to define, initiate,finance and implement solu-tions to problems relating toquality. Research results are

incorporated in publications, courses and seminars, in thecurricula of universities and inthe harmonization of qualitymanagement training.

The DGQ Research andEducation department sup-ports FQS administratively – inplanning, selecting modes offinancial support and imple-menting projects.

The monthly Qualität undZuverlässigkeit (QZ) (Qualityand Reliability), which is theofficial DGQ journal and at thesame time a specialist publica-tion dealing with quality man-agement, includes current con-tributions and information rele-vant to quality managementthemes and events in industryand the service sector. Formembers of DGQ a subscrip-tion to QZ is automatic, as it isincluded in the annual mem-bership fee.

TGQ training courses and

seminars are orientatedtowards specific target groups.The individual training blocksinteract with one another asmodular units of a self-con-tained education and trainingsystem and are supplementedby special themes which aredealt with in the DGQ seminars.This structure offers the partic-ipants – from the individualworker up to the top manager –a qualification program whichis precisely tailor-made for theirown needs.

Each DGQ course block can becompleted with an examinationand grant of a DGQ Certificateand in some cases of an EOQ(European Organisation forQuality) Certificate. The coursecontents corresponds to the

requirements of the relevantcompanies and organizationsand is also the material testedin the examinations. DGQ certi-ficates are recognized inGermany and internationally.When applying for a job, parti-cularly in the field of qualitymanagement, DGQ certificatescan play a decisive role andcan therefore be the key topositive career development.

The DGQ Seminars focus onparticular aspects of QualityManagement, for example withregard to IntegrativeManagement, Total QualityManagement (TQM), ProcessManagement, Quality inProduct Planning andManufacturing, QualityManagement in the AutomotiveIndustry and Quality StandardISO 9000. Some DGQ seminarsrelate specifically to theExcellence Model of the EFQM(European Foundation forQuality Management): TQM asa Management Method,Training and Further Training forTQM and EOQ TQM Assessors.

Services offered by DEC in-clude:

Internationally, DGQ cooper-ates with organizations all overthe world who share the same

quality aims. DGQ acts as apartner in planning and run-

ning training courses andexaminations, grantingDGQ or EOQ certificatesand organizing qualitymanagement events.DGQ associations,called "Friends of DGQabroad", offer supportand a platform for theexchange of information

about a wide range ofquality issues.

In EU countries, EuropeanCommission funds are, in cer-

tain cases, available to financeDGQ education and trainingmeasures. In international pro-jects of the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation andDevelopment, DGQ cooperatesin the field of education andtraining with the Gesellschaftfür Technische Zusammen-arbeit (German Agency forTechnical Cooperation) – GTZ –,the Physikalisch-TechnischeBundesanstalt (FederalInstitute of Physics andMetrology) – PTB –, the Carl-Duisberg-Gesellschaft (CDG)

and the Bundesanstalt fürMaterialforschung und -prü-fung (Federal Institute forMaterials Research andTesting) – BAM. In their efforts to maintain and promote theknow-how and infrastructure indevelopment areas, theseorganizations are assisted byDGQ who provides the trainingmaterial and specialist trainerswith cross-border qualifica-tions.

At present, bilateral coopera-tion with partners abroad fo-cuses on Europe, LatinAmerica, Asia and Africa.

ogether with theDeutsche Institut für Normung(German Standards Institute) –DIN –, DGQ founded theDeutsche Gesellschaft zurZertifizierung von Manage-mentsystemen GmbH (GermanAssociation for Certification ofManagement Systems) – DQS –in 1985. DQS was the first neu-tral and independent organiza-tion for the evaluation and cer-tification of managementsystems in Germany.

DGQ is also a shareholder inDIN DQS Technorga GmbH, amanagement company whoseaim is to develop, market andprovide services which mea-surably and demonstrablyimprove the performance ofcompanies and organizations.

Together with the VereinDeutscher Ingenieure (VDI TheAssociation of Engineers) andthe leading associations ofGerman industry and com-merce, DGQ developed theGerman quality award, theLudwig Erhard Prize. TheLudwig Erhard Prize is awar-ded each year for BusinessExcellence. It is available tocompanies and organizationsfrom all sectors and of all sizes,including public authorities andinstitutions.

As the German representativeand as a founder and full mem-ber of the European Orga-nisation for Quality (EOQ) DGQoffers training courses andcertificates in the fields of qua-lity and environmental man-agement which are recognisedbeyond the boundaries ofEurope. The aim of EOQ is topromote quality and changemanagement on the national,European and internationallevels. A particular achieve-ment of EOQ has been thedevelopment, promotionand harmonization ofquality training and poli-cy in Europe.

As a member andnational partner orga-nization of the Euro-pean Foundation forQuality Management(EFQM), DGQ promotesthe management philosophyof the EFQM ExcellenceModel. Excellence is definedas exceptionally good perfor-mance in all areas of manage-ment.

In order to fulfill its wide-rang-ing tasks as national partnerorganization of EFQM, DGQfounded the Deutsche EFQMCenter (German EFQM Center)– DEC – in 1999. Via DEC, DGQis the central contact partner incomprehensive quality man-agement and Excellence inGermany.

DGQ maintains more than 60Regional Sections in Germany,where quality specialists meetto exchange knowledge acrosscompany and industrial sectorboundaries on a regional levelmaking use of contacts withindustry, trade and organiza-tions in the quality field. DGQRegional Sections are freeagents as regards the formula-tion of their targets and thecreation of programs as well asin their cooperation activitieswith other organizations. Workin the Regional Sections is on avoluntary and remuneration-free basis.

All quality-relevant questionscan be dealt with here – qualitymanagement in large busi-nesses as well as in smalland medium-sized enterprises(SME), Standards and revisionof Standards, auditing and cer-tification, accreditation andquality prizes ...

This network of central andregional offices guarantees thebest possible exchange ofinformation and assistance inall fields of quality and environ-mental management.

GQ offers close contactwith customers in the regions.Four DGQ Regional Officeshave been established for thispurpose. The Regional Office"Mitte" (Center) with its centraloffice in Frankfurt/Main is re-sponsible for the areas ofHessia, Rhineland Palatinate,Saarland and North Rhine-Westphalia. The RegionalOffice "Nord" (North) inLengerich near Osnabrück has

its sphere of activity in LowerSaxony and Schleswig-Hol-stein as well as in the cities ofHamburg and Bremen.

From its office in Stuttgart theRegional Office "Süd" (South)supports Baden-Württembergand Bavaria while the RegionalOffice "Ost" (East) in Berlin isresponsible for Berlin andBrandenburg, MecklenburgWestern Pomerania, Saxony,Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia.

The DGQ Regional Officesestablish the training require-ments in the regions and keepclose contact with the RegionalSections, with DGQ members,customers and interested par-ties in all questions of qualitymanagement. In addition, the Regional Offices work togetherwith the respective Stategovernments as well as withpublic bodies, associations,federations and training institu-tions.
