an introduction to art values and their technique. It would be better to invest one's thirty-five cents in Perry pic- tures. The paper and printing in The School World is cheap and hard on the eyes, the paper being semi-transparent. There are several pages of ready-made university notes, to justify the plica- tion's name, no doubt. These seem to center about an "On to Wellesley' propaganda and the discouragement of smoking by the students in universi- ties. "So far as we are concerned," says Mr. (?) Knowlton, "we have often felt that there was a little too much smoking about the colleges."

selected experiments. It is a text book in the embryo as every experiment is introduced by a brief discussion of its
underlying principle. Another very worthy feature of the course is "to make wherever feasible, one good piece of ap- paratus active in several experiment" just as the author has said in his pre- face. The loose-leaf form also makes it very commendable.
Cave, Mound, and Lake Dwel- l e r s and Other Primitive People. By Florence Holbrook. 1911. D. C. Heath & Co., Boston. This little book tells of the life of
primitive men in such a simple manner that it may be placed in the hands of the children of the intermediate grade age. It is crowded with information concerning the homes, the struggles for existence and the gradual progress of these people toward better conditions. A very commendable feature of the book is the repeated comparison of prehistoric conditions and methods of living with those of today. The many illustrations are especially suggestive, helpful, and in- teresting.
