Der Europäische VELB-Kongress mit seinen internationalbesetzten Referaten, seinen Workshops, Roundtable-Diskussio-nen und verschiedenen Ausstellern bietet seit Jahren ein span-nendes Spiegelbild des internationalen Stillwissens.

Berlin bildet dieses Jahr keine Ausnahme: Ob Sie sich für dasUmsetzen der “Babyfriendly Hospital Initiative“, psychischeErkrankungen in der Stillzeit, Stillkompetenz bei Frühgebore-nen, ethische Fragen oder technische Massnahmen wie Low-Level Laser Therapie und Ultraschalltherapie interessieren, Siewerden bestimmt das Gewünschte finden.

Die Roundtablediskussion “Perinatale und peripartale Einflüsse auf die Stillbeziehung“gestattet uns aber auch, kritisch zu hinterfragen, welchen Beitrag wir zu einer natürli-chen Geburt und späteren Auswirkungen auf das Stillen leisten können.

Die dieses Jahr erstmals stattfindende Posterausstellung, gibt Ihnen Einblick in verschie-dene Studien und Untersuchungen.

Interessantes versprechen auch die drei Hauptreferate: Die Geschichte des Stillens,Schlafen sowie der Abschluss des Kongresses mit dem Thema Stillverhalten und Entlee-rung der Brust.

Sie werden Berlin mit neuen Aspekten, neuem Wissen aber auch mit Bestätigung desBekannten verlassen.

Welcome from the VELB President


The European VELB Conference with its internationally knownspeakers, workshops, roundtable discussions and a variety ofexhibitors has, for many years, provided an exciting reflection ofinternational breastfeeding knowledge.

This year, Berlin is no exception: whether you are interested inthe implementation of the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative, psy-chiatric illness during the breastfeeding period, breastfeedingcompetency in premature infants, ethical questions or technicalinterventions such as low-level laser therapy and ultrasound,you will certainly find what you are looking for here.

The roundtable discussion on „Perinatal and peripartal Influences on BreastfeedingRelationship” offers an opportunity to pose critical questions about the contribution wecould make to a natural birth and the later effects of this on breastfeeding.

The poster exhibition being held for the first time this year provides insight into variousstudies and research.

The three plenary lectures – „The History of Breastfeeding“, „Sleeping“ as well as theclosing lecture of the congress with its topic of „Patterns of Breastfeeding and assess-ment of Breast expression“ also promise to be interesting.

You will leave Berlin with new perspectives and new knowledge, but also with confirmati-on of what you have known up to now.

Das „bcc“ Berliner Congress Center amAlexanderplatz

Von der Generation@ schon vor Jahrenwiederentdeckt. Berlin-Alexanderplatz.Hier entstand in einem Architekturensem-ble der internationalen Moderne ein Ver-anstaltungsort der Maßstäbe setzt.

1961 – 1964 schuf Hermann Henselmann,Bauhaus-Schüler und DDR-Stararchitekt,mit dem Haus des Lehrers und der Kon-gresshalle einen visionären Gebäudekom-plex. Funktionalität und Transparenz wur-den in einer futuristischen Architekturumgesetzt, die bis heute nichts von ihrerAusstrahlung verloren hat. Das Hochhausmit seinem monumentalen, farbigenWandfries und die überkuppelte, gläserneHalle stehen unter Denkmalschutz.

Nachdem die Immobilie 2001 im Verbundmit der Wohnungsbaugesellschaft Berlin-Mitte vom Land Berlin erworben wurde,wurde das Gebäudeensemble bis 2004 fürca. 25 Millionen €uro saniert. Der sensibleUmgang mit dem historischen und archi-tektonischen Erbe unter zeitgemäßen Prä-missen wies dabei den Weg.

The „bcc“ Berliner Congress Center at theAlexanderplatz

Generation@ rediscovered Berlin Alexan-derplatz years ago. A standard-settingvenue was being created in an architectu-ral collection of international modern-sty-le buildings.

From 1961 – 1964 Hermann Henselmann,Bauhaus scholar and leading GDR archi-tect, created a visionary building complexwith the “Haus des Lehrers” and the con-gress hall. Functionally and transparencywere transformed into futuristic archi-tecture which has still not lost any of itsshine. The high-rise building with itsmonumental coloured wall frieze and theglass hall with its dome are under preser-vation order.

After both buildings were acquired in2001 from the State of Berlin in associati-on with the Wohnbaugesellschaft Berlin-Mitte, the buildings were renovated by2004 at a cost of approximately EUR 25million. The historical and architecturalheritage has being dealt with sensitivelywithin the time constraints.

Still- und Laktationsberaterinnen IBCLCfüllen dazu bitte das in der Tagungsmappeliegende CERPs Formular aus, ergänzen dasBlatt mit Name, Adresse, 1. Examensjahr,Datum und Unterschrift und geben es amEnde des Kongresses bei der Registratur ab.

Die genaue Anzahl CERPs ist auf dem CERPsKontrolblatt ersichtlich. Stempel und Unter-schrift für Fortbildungs- und CERPs-Kon-trollhefte können Sie an beiden Tagen ab16.00 Uhr bei der Registratur erhalten.

The exact number of CERPs is listed on theCERPs control sheet. Continuing educationand CERP booklets can be stamped andsigned on both days by the registrar star-ting at 4.00 pm.

LiabilityParticipants are requested to arrange fortheir own personal accident insuranceduring the VELB-Conference. The organizerassumes no liability.

With a signature on the registration form,participants confirm that no damagesagainst the conference organizer can berecovered, apart from the conference fee,if the conference cannot be held due tounforeseeable political or economicfactors or because civil unrest would sub-stantially increase the difficulty of holdingthe conference or make it impossible.

Kopfhörer für die SimultananlageDie Kopfhörer zur Simultananlage sindEigentum des bcc und dürfen nicht ausdem Gebäude herausgetragen werden.

Bei der Erstabgabe der Kopfhörer am16.04.04 wird ein Depot von 50.00 € erho-ben. Die Kopfhörer sind am Freitag Abendwieder abzugeben, damit sie über Nacht neugeladen werden können. Die TeilnehmerIn-nen erhalten einen Kopfhörerbon gegen densie am Samstag Morgen wieder einen Kopf-hörer erhalten. Bei der Abgabe des Kopfhö-rers am Samstag Abend erhalten die Teilneh-merInnen das Depot von 50.00 € zurück.

ChildcareBreastfed infants (up to 6 month of age)may accompany their mothers to the lectu-res. Mothers are kindly asked to leave theroom if crying or other sounds disturbother participants. For organisational rea-sons no childcare can be offered.

HeadphonesThe headphones for the simultaneoustranslation are the property of bcc andmay not be taken out of the building.

There is a € 50.00 deposit when the head-phones are first handed out on April 16,2004. Headphones must be returned onthe evening of April 16 so they can berecharged. Participants receive a head-phone coupon that can be exchanged forheadphones on Saturday morning, April17. When the headphones are returned onSaturday evening, April 17, the € 50.00deposit will be refunded.
