PRAYER FOR MEMORIAL DAY MONDAY, MAY 24

Heavenly Father, on this Memorial Day, we pray for those who courageously laid down their lives for the cause of freedom. May the example of their sacrifice inspire in us the selfless love of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Bless the families of our fallen troops, and fill their homes and their lives with your strength and peace. In union with people of goodwill of every nation, embolden us to answer the call to work for peace and justice, and thus, seek an end to violence and conflict around the globe. We pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.

**Please note that daily Mass on Memorial Day will be celebrated at 9:00 AM.**

NEPAL EARTHQUAKE RECOVERY

We have all seen and heard the news about the devastation caused by the earthquakes in

Nepal. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has suggested that (arch)dioceses consider sponsoring a collection to support Catholic Relief Services (CRS) in their efforts to help the Nepalese people in their recovery. Therefore, we will be taking up a separate second collection on the weekend of May 30th and 31st. We ask that if you are contributing by check, that you make it payable to St. Maximilian Kolbe.

PRIESTS’ CONVOCATION Archbishop Charles Chaput will assemble with the priests of the Archdiocese this coming week for a Priests’ Convocation from May 26 through May 28, 2015. The Priests’ Convocation provides a unique opportunity for priestly fraternity and unity.

It is also a time dedicated to prayer and reflection on the gift of the ministerial priesthood instituted by Christ for the Church. These days will include the celebration of the Liturgy of the Hours and Holy Mass, as well as talks on the theme, “The Priesthood Fully Engaged,” given by Matthew Kelly of the Dynamic Catholic Institute. The Deans have planned in advance for the sacramental needs and emergencies in our parishes and institutions during these days with the help of many Religious, senior and retired priests. Please pray for our Archbishop, Auxiliary Bishops and Priests during the upcoming Priests’ Convocation. May this gathering bear fruit for our priests in holiness of life and of greater service to Christ and His Church. Mary, Queen of the Clergy, pray for them!

WORLD MEETING OF FAMILIES

Are you planning on going

to the Papal Mass? We are trying to determine if we should attempt to book a bus to attend the Papal Mass. While speaking to the Transportation Coordinator from the World Meeting of Families, he wanted us to be fully aware of the challenges of attending an international event of these proportions.

• We will leave early Sunday morning for a 3:00 PM Mass.

• Be prepared to walk and stand most of the day. • The buses will only be allowed to park and drop off approximately 5 miles from where the Mass will be celebrated. People then will take subways into Center City • Only clear bags will be allowed in the area where Mass is being celebrated. The Transportation Coordinator suggested that the trains are the best form of transportation into the city that day. With all that being said, if you are interested in taking a bus from St. Maximilian Kolbe Church please fill out the form below or call the rectory with your name, phone number and number of family members attending. If enough people are interested we will attempt to book a bus for that day. Cost per person will be determined once a bus is booked. ********************************************
