The tried and tested shaft measuring station MarShaft
MAN is now available with smart software, thanks to
the new evaluation computer MarCheck plus. The eval-
uation computer simplifi es the measurement of rota-
tionally symmetrical workpieces and thus speeds up the
work in production.

The manual measuring station MarShaft MAN provides
information in a matter of seconds as to whether your
workpieces are being produced within the toleranc-
es. The operator quickly notices that the machine tool

MarShaft shaft measuring instruments are mostly used in production. However, with their high measuring accuracy
they can also be used in measuring laboratories. The instruments are available in various sizes, and their modular

The tasks of production metrology are growing at
a high speed parallel to the innovations in the pro-
duction processes. Due to the constantly increasing
precision requirements and decreasing cycle times in
production (turning, milling, grinding, etc.), fast mea-
surement directly at the production machine is inevita-
ble. Measurements must take place where the product
is made, with fast feedback to the manufacturing pro-
cess to avoid waste.

The entire MarShaft MAN was designed for robust-
ness, long-term stability and insensitivity for use in the

The new evaluation computer MarCheck plus consists
of three core components:
1. MarCheck plus control electronics
The MarCheck plus control electronics are designed
exclusively for the operation of MarShaft MAN units
(sizes 400 mm to 2400 mm) with the MarWin EasyShaft
MAN measurement and evaluation software.
The controller is available as a basic version (4 channels)
or a premium version (9 channels). The premium ver-
sion has two additional connections for temperature
sensors, which are required for optional temperature
compensation.

3. Evaluation software EasyShaft MAN
With the new evaluation software MarWin EasyShaft
MAN, Mahr again sets new standards in manual shaft
metrology on the market.
The software operation concept was largely taken over
by the very successful evaluation software of the op-
tical Mahr shaft measuring devices of the MarShaft
SCOPE plus product line. The very simple, intuitive op-
eration minimizes training requirements. The evalua-
tion software MarWin EasyShaft MAN can be mastered
in a very short time. No programming knowledge is re-
quired; the creation of measuring programs is done in
Teach-In mode. The individual characteristics are simply
measured one after the other and subsequently stored
as a measurement program sequence.

Another unique feature is the MarShaft MAN config-
urator. This is used to inform the MarCheck plus con-
trol which measuring slides and measuring modules
are mounted on the MarShaft MAN and which inputs
of the control unit these have been connected to. The
configuration usually takes place before the delivery of
the measuring station at Mahr. When retrofitting addi-
tional or other measuring modules, the customer can
comfortably configure the new arrangement of the
measuring modules himself. Since all MarShaft MAN
measurement modules have a correction data memory,
it is not necessary for customer service to perform any
additional calibration.
Retrofits
The MarCheck plus can be retrofitted for all MarShaft
MAN shaft machines. Offers upon request. Retrofitting
for Helios Helio PAN shaft machines must be checked in
individual cases.

If CAD workpiece data is available, it can be loaded simply with a mouseclick.
Subsequently, the start position of the length measuring module is determined on the CAD model.
Then the loaded CAD model is aligned according to the workpiece position.

MarCheck is a new compact measuring and evaluating
unit for the manual measuring machine MarShaft MAN
and is characterized by its ease of handling and high
performance scope. The user requires only very little
training, thus the unit can be immediately impelement-
ed, saving time and costs.
The large, clear, LCD monochrome display (240 x 160
dots) can display up to three measuring chanals si-
multaneously. Activation of the individual measuring
canals on the display takes place automatically when
measuring with the corresponding measuring axis. The
measuring direction is shown. The MarCheck has three
measuring chanals for two linear measuring axes (Z
and X) and one rotary measuring axis (C), which can be
reconfi gured to a linear measuring axis (R) if needed.
For runout and roundness measurements, the precision
measuring spindle (C axsis) is controlled by MarCheck
and automatically switched on an off.

If dimensions in the appraisal drawing are indicated relative
to a point that cannot be contacted or if instead of the
actual value the deviation from a specified nominal value is
to be indicated, a preset value must be entered. Up to three
different preset values can be stored
Establish the maximum
Computes the greatest single value of a dynamic measure-
ment.
Establish the minimum
Computes the lowest single value of a dynamic measure-
ment.
Establish the difference
Computes the difference between the lowest and greatest
single value of a dynamic measurement.
Measure radial runout
Measures the radial runout dynamically at any desired
element of a shaft with the X-axis (diameter measuring
module).
Measure axial runout
Measures the radial runout statically (by contacting individ-
ual points) at any desired element of a shaft with the Z-axis
(length measuring module).
Determine center
Determines the center point of a bore at any desired seg-
ment of a shaft with the R-axis (UTS 80 M module).

Determine cone angle
Computes the cone angle from two diameter measurements
taken with the X-axis (diameter measuring module) at two
different Z-positions of the same shaft segment and taking
the Z-distance between the mesurements into consideration.
Symmetry function
Determines the center point between two measuring points,
either relatively, i. e. as half the distance between the two
measuring points, or absolutely, i. e. as the distance to the
selected reference point. The desired option can be selected
using the keys of the function key bar assigned to the corre-
sponding pictograph.
Calculate axis
Calculates a reference axis from two or more radial runout
measurements on different shaft elements.
• Keys for deleting/accepting measured values
Key for starting data transfer and for selecting the data to
be transferred. The data are written to the file ACTUPART.
TXT and stored in the export/import memory. In order to be
able to transfer data, a computer must already be connected
to the MarCheck USB-B interface. If the key is held down,
the following pictographs are displayed:
Switch it off, press the key and hold it down aS least 3
seconds. Then the pictograph is shown on the display. The
instrument is switched off after the related key on the func-
tion key bar is pressed.

the input indicator one position to the left.

• Keys for setting and calibration tasks
Starts the function for calibrating the probe(s). (5, Abb. 4).
Opens the menu catalog where basic settings can be made.
Multiplies the measured value (e. g. the diameter) with a
factor that can be freely entered (e. g. 0.5) to calculate a
specific feature (the radius in the case mentioned). An "*n"
will be displayed in the measuring axes box.

Displays the measured value sequence graphically during a
measurement. This is particularly helpful for dynamic mea-
surements such as radial runout and axial runout and for

MarShaft MAN SeriesOptical measuring system for MarShaft MAN with center height 150 mm
Together with the evaluation software, the optical
measuring system OMS 120 enables the measurement
of geometry elements that cannot be traced or evalu-
ated with the tactile probes of MarShaft MAN.
The operating concept is optimized for direct use in the
production line and can be easily operated without any
metrological knowledge.
The specimen contour is depicted with the silhouette
method on the camera chip and displayed on the moni-
tor. For the detailed and accurate depiction, high-qual-
ity telecentric optical components are used. The corre-
sponding workpiece contour is only roughly positioned
in the image fi eld of the camera. Final position in Z or
X direction is not required.
The software has quick measuring functions that auto-
matically evaluate the relevant feature results for the
current measuring task.
Quick measuring functions

• Intersection line-line
A fast measuring function evaluates several feature re-
sults simulataneously. The relevent results can be se-
lected for measuring records or data transfer.
With these functions, most of the measuring tasks car-
ried out on shafts can be quickly and easily.
For measuring tasks that are not covered by the quick
measuring functions, numerous manual evaluation
functions are available.
