Gerhard Leeb (��)� österreichischer Journalist� Publizist� Grafiker� Fotograf undKunstschaffender interessierte sich schon früh für die Natur und für künstlerischeAusdrucksweisen� Die fehlende Möglichkeit zu einem entsprechenden Studiumkompensierte Leeb durch die Fotografie�

Nach der abgeschlossenen kaufmännischen und fotografischen Lehre und Studienreisenund Arbeitsaufenthalte in Skandinavien� Deutschland� Italien und Frankreich folgten ersteLand� und Concept�Art�Projekte und Installationen� Darunter auch eine gemeinsam mitHans Bischoffshausen in und um die Galerie „Hildebrand“ in Klagenfurt (��)�

Während sich Leeb in der Fotografie auf die Suche nach neuen Ausdrucksformen machte�wurden seine Projekte im Bereich der bildenden Kunst immer sozialkritischer und� fallwei�se� sogar Tagesaktuell� Aus dieser Zeit stammen beispielsweise Landart�Projekte wie „DerUntergang der Lagunenstadt“ (��) oder der Entwurf zu einem „Tragbaren Kriegerdenk�mal“ (��)�

Der Wille „lebenslang zu lernen“ brachte Gerhard Leeb immer wieder zu „Brot�Berufen“�Dabei war es ihm gleichzeitig aber auch möglich alle Drucktechniken zu lernen und sich alsGrafik�Designer ausbilden zu lassen� Weitere Stationen auf diesem Weg waren Redakteurbei Kärntner Tageszeitungen� das Industrial�Design für die Produktion von wildwassertaug�lichen Schlauchbooten� die Herausgabe der Magazine „Planet Alpen“ und „Planet Adria“ undmehrerer Natur� und Kulturführer� Dazwischen immer wieder nationale und internationa�le Ausstellungen mit Fotografie� Malerei und Grafik oder nachhaltige Stadtentwicklungs�konzepte – wie die „Alpenstadt des Jahres“ – die ihm unter anderem den Umweltpreis desLandes Kärntens und jenen der Stadt Villach einbrachten� �� machte sich Leeb endgültigselbständig�

Mit der fotografischen Serie „Panta rhei“ gelang dem Künstler �� erstmals „Bewegung“(im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes) in seine Fotografien zu bringen� Nicht mehr allein das sta�tische Festhalten eines Augenblickes stand im Mittelpunkt seiner Arbeit� Vielmehr versuchtLeeb dabei die dem Motiv innewohnende Bewegung auch in den Bildern wiederzugeben�

Trotz seiner völlig eigenen „Handschrift“ finden sich bei Leeb's Arbeiten immer wieder Spu�ren zur „Pop�Art“� zum „Verpacker“ Christo oder auch zu Jackson Pollock� Den Anstoss dafürbilden zumeist Medienberichte die den Österreicher zwingen künstlerisch Position zu bezie�hen� Dann entwirft er eine neue US�Flagge (Bananen statt Sterne – �� )� stellt olympischeRinge aus Stacheldraht her (Pjöng Jang – ��) oder entdeckt eine „IS�Selbsthilfegruppe“ inder irakischen Wüste (Isnogud – ��)�

In den letzten Jahren erregen aber auch die Land� und Concept Art�Projekte des Österrei�chers für entsprechendes Aufsehen� Die entstandenen Arbeiten reichen dabei von der Kritikan der menschenverachtenden Politik Chinas („Sternentor nach Tibet“ ��) über denWohlstandsmüll („Plastic Fence“ ��) bis hin zu seinen „Strandgut“�Objekten� diefür Leeb stellvertretend für die immer größer werdende Zahl an menschlichemStrandgut stehen� �� wurde das „Sternentor nach Tibet“ in Villach� im öffentli�chen Raum� aufgestellt�

,,,,Schön und/oder kritisch ...

Gerhard Leeb (��)� an Austrian journalist� publicist� graphic artist� photographer�and a creative artist has fairly early shown interest in nature and artistic expressi�ons� Leeb compensated the lack for corresponding studies with photography�

After the completion of studying the commerce and photography and his work in Scandi�navia� Germany� Italy and France � followed the first Land� and Concept� Art� Project andinstallations� Among these was the collaboration with Hans Bischffshausen in the "Hilde�brand" gallery in Klagenfurt (��)

While Leeb was in search of new expressions in photography� his projescts in the field ofvisual arts were always sociocritical and� in some cases� even daily updated�Land art projects like "The Sinking of the Lagoon City" (��)� or the design of a "PortableWar Memorial" (��) date to this period�

The will for a "lifelong learning" has always brought Leeb to a "bread and butter occupati�on"� At the same time� it was possible for him to learn all the printing techniques and to betrained as a graphic designer�

Further stations on this path were Carinthian newspapers where he worked as an editor�industrial design for the suitable whitewater inflatables� the publication of the magazine"Planet Alps" and "Planet Adriatic" and several nature and culture guides�In between there were national and international exhibitions of photography � painting andgraphic arts or sustainable urban development concepts � such as the " Alpine Town of theYear" � which earned him � among other things� the environmental award of the country ofCarinthia and that of the city of Villach� In �� Leeb became independent�

With the "Panta rhei" photography series� the artist managed for the first time in �� tobring the movement (in the truest sense of the word) to his photographies� The static cap�ture of a moment was no longer the focus of his work� Leeb rather tries to represent themovement inherent to the motive in his pictures�

Despite the completely own signature� the traces of "Pop � Art"� "Verpacker " Christo andeven Jackson Pollock are found in Leeb’s work� The impetus for that is for the most part for�med by the media reports that oblige Austrians to obtain an artistic position� So he desi�gned a new US flag (bananas instead of stars � �� )� made Olympic rings out of barbed wire(Pjöng Jang � ��) or he discovered an "IS � support group" in the Iraqui desert (Isnogoud� ��)�

In recent years� however� the Land� and Concept Art projects of the Austrians have attrac�ted a corresponding attention�The works produced range from the criticism of the inhuman policy of China ( " Stargate toTibet " ��)� to the prosperity garbage ( " Plastic Fence " ��)� to its flotsamand jetsam objects "Lampedusa" which� for Leeb� stand for ever growing numberin human flotsam and jetsam� The "Stargate to Tibet" was set up in a public areain Villach in ��
