1. General
The AudioAnalyzer.Net is a software based solution for the analysis and generation of analog and digital signals in the audio range. In this case, standard PC - Components with Microsoft ® Windows XP or below operating systems can be used (including Windows7 ®).
For analysis of the audio signals in addition to the frequency and signal strength of various measurements, measurements of the distortion factor and the FFT spectrum are possible. Through the integrated signal generators, different waves and modulation forms are generated. The surface of the audio analyzer can be widely adapted and adjusted to varying applications. All functions of the audio analyzer can be controlled using a COM server interface from other Windows programs. The obtained values can also be integrated into a variety of programs. Special programming knowledge is not required. As input, both analog and digital sources are possible. The following document provides a system manual and describes the installation, the architecture and functions of the audio analyzer.
1.1. Architecture
The Audio Analyzer is a software-based solution for the analysis and generation of analog and digital signals in
the audio range. The audio signals are recorded on a sound card and in digitized form provided by the audio
analyzer. Generated signals are also output through the sound card. Optionally, external amplifiers that adjust
the different input levels can be up streamed. The attenuation of this amplifier can in turn be controlled via a
serial RS232 connection from the audio analyzer. Aside from using the audio analyzer as a standalone application
it is also possible to remotely control all functions and values of other Windows programs or scanning. For this
purpose a COM-Client/Server interface is used. The exact use of this interface is described later in this document.

2. Installation
The following section describes the installation of the AudioAnalyzer.Net.
2.1. System requirements

2.2. Installation
For the installation, please call up the provided MCDAudioAnalyzer.Net.msi installation program and follow the
on-screen instructions. Before installing any update, be sure to uninstall any other existing version.
The program directory for the installation of the audio analyzer can be set. It should be noted that for the
implementation of the Audio Analyzer, write permissions must exist for this directory.
To protect the audio analyzer against unauthorized use, it is necessary to license the audio analyzer after
installation. A detailed description of the licensing is done later in this document. For demonstration and testing
purposes, the audio analyzer can be operated for 30 minutes without a license. Some program features are
disabled.
2.3. Deinstallation
To uninstall application follow as usual: Windows- Control Panel> Programs and Functions.

3. Info and license
The Info menu displays the program version and the activation of the license for the audio analyzer.

4. Project Manager
In the Project Manager, the current settings and the layout of the audio analyzer can be saved and loaded. (All
windows can be freely positioned and arranged according to their own needs.) Furthermore, the logger can be
activated and the program be closed.
4.1. Save
Via the Save command, all current settings are saved in a project file. The current window positions are retained
therein also.
4.2. Load
Via the command load previously saved settings can be reloaded. The original window positions are restored.
4.3. Save curve
Via the Save command, the current captured input curve can be saved.
4.4. Load curve
Via the Load curve command, a saved curve can be reloaded. All curve values (RMS, THD, FFT, Phase, etc.) are
newly configured and displayed. Currently running recordings are stopped.
4.5. Presets
Here, for example predefined settings can be accessed.
Logger
This command enables the log window. Depending on the settings in the setup the audio analyzer creates log
messages (errors, warnings, information ...), which are shown here.

This will exit the program. If the program was started as a COM server, it cannot be stopped, and this menu item
is deactivated.

5. Device selection
Here, various equipment settings can be performed.
5.1. Input
In this dialog, you may select the sound card, which is to be used for recording. If the selected sound card has
multiple inputs, the desired input can be selected.
With the check box Run the recording is started and stopped.
Via Sample rate and bits per sample, the quality of the recording can be set. Buffer size decides on the duration
of a single recording cycle.
With the button 2 ^ n the buffer size is increased to the power of two. These values are particularly useful for
frequency response analyzes and use the internal FFT analysis from optimal.
With the button 10 ^ n is the buffer size multiplied to the next power of ten increased with the sample rate.
These values are particularly suitable for the graphical display (triggering).
With the selection FFT window type, the calculation of the FFT analysis utilized window function can be
determined. In general, the selection of the Hanning - windows is the best choice.
5.2. Output
This dialog is used to select the sound card, which is to be used for playback. As the sound cards typically provide

the output signal always on multiple outputs, also, three different calibration settings (analog, digital and
internal) can be selected.
Via Sample rate and bits per sample, the playback quality can be set.

5.3. Audio gain
If in the input adaption is an AudioGain-Controller of MCD Elektronik between signal source and sound card
connected and enabled in setup, the desired measurement range can be set here.
Furthermore, the calculated correction factor is displayed.
5.4. Mixer overview
For test and diagnostic purposes here all mixer, playback and recording devices and their settings can be
displayed.
For the application and interpretation of this display in-depth knowledge of the Windows sound API are required.
5.5. Reset
This will reset all settings (except the display) of the audio analyzer to predefined values.

6. Generator
With the help of the generators with the Audio Analyzer can different output signals be generated. There are up
to 10 generators available. The outputs of the generators can be either mixed or modulated.
6.1. Generator 1 - 5
Here the first 5 generators can directly be called up. For each generator the following settings can be made:
Activation of channels 1 and or 2
Wave forms (see below)
Frequency
Startfrequency for a multi sinusoidal
Stop frequency for a multi sinusoidal
Step size for a multi sinusoidal
Amplitude
Designation of whether the amplitude is given as RMS value (for sinusoidal waveforms)
Phase shift chanel 1
Phase shift chanel 2
Selection of the modulation (no, AM, FM, PM - see below)
Selection of the generator, which is to be modulated.
If a modulation is selected, it means that the generator not directly produces an output signal, but that the signal
of this generator is used to modulate a different generator. So that there is no feedback, a generator can always
modulate only a subsequent generator.

7. Sweep
When using the sweep, a single or continuous sweep signal can be generated with the AudioAnalyzer.
7.1. Sweep
Here, the sweep output can be called up. The following settings can be made:
Activation of the channels 1 and/or 2
Waveform (see below)
Frequenzy interval
Amplitude intervall
Marking whether the amplitude is expressed as RMS-value (for sine waveform)

The sweep is started using the Start button. An ongoing sweep can be stopped by clicking the Stop button.

8. Filter
Using the filter, the input signal can be treated before the signal analysis. There are up to five filters available. The
filters are "in line" positioned.
8.1. Filter 1 to 5
Here, you can call up filters 1 to 5 directly. The following settings are available:
Activation of channels 1 and/or 2
Filter type (high pass, low pass, band pass and band rejection)
Start and stop frequency for band pass and band rejection
Cut off frequency for high and low pass
Amplification/damping
Filter order
It should be noted that the filter order has an effect on all filters. For all filtering, the highest filter order set is
always used. A high filter order usually causes steeper flanks on the cut-off frequencies, but requires more
processing power. A too high of a filter order results in "overshoot" at the cutoff frequencies.

For the synchronization of the display, additionally a reference frequency can be displayed. The display is then in
such that for the specified reference frequency, a phase transition of zero is assumed.

9. Setup
Here, the configuration and calibration of the audio analyzer takes place.
9.1. Options
In the area General, the determination of the window title for the audio analyzer is carried out.
In the area Logging, the configuration of the log level (Error, Warning, Info, Debug, Trace), is carried out, the
activation of the background updates when logging, even if the log window is not active and to determine
whether the log messages should be written to a file.
If in the input matching is an audio gain controller of the company MCD Elektronik connected, between the
source and sound card, can in the Audio gain the configuration of the communication for AudioGain controller
take place.

10. COM/DCOM - Interface
Using the COM / DCOM - Interface, the audio analyzer on each COM / DCOM – capable Windows program can be
remote controlled.
